Pretty cool side trip

This was side trip for us, I was kind of uneasy (don't do cementaries) but I wasn't too creeped out, The history is unbelievable.

Our family was so excited about looking for O'Henry and Thomas Wolfe graves since we have read some of their books. We had a map ahead of our visit which made finding their graves easy since the office was closed the day we were there. We also found other older unusually graves that made our hour there interesting.

You may come here because Thomas Wolfe and O'Henry are buried here... However, begin your tour of Riverside Cemetery at the Cemetery office and get a map that helps guide you through history. Many Civil War generals and Gov. Zeb Vance are buried here as well as Wolfe and O'Henry. The tombstones are old and creative and tell stories themselves.... More

Riverside Cemetery isn't exactly at the top of the attraction list in Asheville -- it gets only about 4,000 visitors a year compared with 1.2 million for the Biltmore Estate -- but fans of Thomas Wolfe and O.Henry can come here to pay their respects to these writers who are buried here, along with a number of worthies, including architect... well kept; however, unable to locate Tom Wolfe's grave - no information given (although there were pictures of other famous people, like some of the confederate soldiers). The writer O'Henry was marked but not Tom Wolfe's.

This historic cemetery is such a well kept beautiful, peaceful place. If you are looking for the famous folks who rest there, their graves are well marked. You will have no trouble finding them.

After visiting the Thomas Wolfe home we felt led to see his final resting place. We stopped by the cemetery office and a nice young man patiently gave us a map and directory to famous grave sites. We also saw o Henry 's site but his real name was W.s. Porter.

Spent the day wandering through the graves in awe of the history. If you have the time download the guided tour to your phone....it will save you some time and frustration when trying to find certain sites like Thomas Wolfe's memorial
