Beautiful Cemetery

Went to the cemetery strictly to see the Wolfe Family burial site and the burial site of William Sydney Porter. These are very well marked and worth the visit.

Although it was not quite what we expected, this place was amazing. Deep, rolling hills that go on forever. Such a huge cemetery. Beautiful place. It's like a maze and those hills are steep, so go in your car. Bring a penny and a pencil for Wolfe and Henry.

I'll admit right off the bat that I like seeing historic cemeteries. There's something really creepy, beautiful, and mysterious about them that appeals to me. That being said, Riverside Cemetery is definitely that kind of place. I would highly suggest parking near the entrance and walking to see everything, because, as I have learned from experience, the one lane roads that... More

Located in a Beautiful neighborhood, the cemetery is a nice walk anyway but features the gravesites of Thomas Wolfe and O Henry.

This cemetery is host to lots of famous people and we had to visit and were glad we did. O. Henry, Thomas Wolfe and Civil War Gen'l Zebulon Vance are just some of the folks buried here. It is quite hilly and graves are on a pretty severe slant because of this but the cemetery is lovely and it is... More

This quiet cemetery in Montford is a good place for a stroll if you are feeling existential...This is also the place to find the grave of resting places of some of Asheville's most illustrious past citizens...

We visited here on our recent trip to Asheville, to visit the grounds and a few select graves, Overall, the grounds seemed to be very well managed and well kept. The only issue I'd have to speak on, would be the driving map & signage needs to be better laid out in my opinion, with the hills and many windy... More

It may seem odd to rave about a cemetery, but the old growth trees and historic tombstones and monuments make this a special place. It's superbly maintained and worth of a meditative stroll or serious photography.

I love cemeteries. They used to be the parks for the poor people. If you have more than 2 days in Asheville, then this is a good place to walk, read the tombstones, look at the beautiful foliage (especially in Spring and at fall leaf change time). Pack a lunch and contemplate your life as you look at the graves.... More
