This quiet cemetery in Montford is a good place for a stroll if you are feeling existential...This is also the place to find the grave of resting places of some of Asheville's most illustrious past citizens...

We visited here on our recent trip to Asheville, to visit the grounds and a few select graves, Overall, the grounds seemed to be very well managed and well kept. The only issue I'd have to speak on, would be the driving map & signage needs to be better laid out in my opinion, with the hills and many windy... More

It may seem odd to rave about a cemetery, but the old growth trees and historic tombstones and monuments make this a special place. It's superbly maintained and worth of a meditative stroll or serious photography.

I love cemeteries. They used to be the parks for the poor people. If you have more than 2 days in Asheville, then this is a good place to walk, read the tombstones, look at the beautiful foliage (especially in Spring and at fall leaf change time). Pack a lunch and contemplate your life as you look at the graves.... More

Riverside is a splendid place to walk. I always enjoy seeing what folks leave at O.Henrys grave stone-usually pennies, but sometimes other coins. Sometimes, they are all in a mound and other times, arranged in patterns or around the edge of the stone.

Taking note of the lives of many "Great Americans" that are here, it was a review of history for me. It doesn't take long to find out that you are in the presence of many of the founders of the area and contributors to America as a whole. A worth while side trip.

There was a lot of pretty fall color in the cemetery when we drove around. Hilly and curvy but paved and not difficult to maneuver.

Like many out of towners, I went to see the graves of O'Henry & Thomas Wolfe. Well worth the time . Offered a quiet and beautiful side trip on a gorgeous Fall day.

Lovely grounds, an interested (and interesting!) caretaker, historical markers - really terrific. We visit cemeteries in a lot of towns - this is a good one.

A map of the graveyard is available at the ground taker's house. A lot of history for a small graveyard.
