go 3 to 4 blocks in any direction of Pack Square and you will find an interesting, safe and friendly walk. Asheville is a great small city...eclectic, diverse, surprisingly liberal. It has some great historic architecture, a nice amount of small parks and green spaces. It has a great variety of restaurants , street bistros, bars etc. Good shopping, helpful... More

Downtown Asheville area. Parking was easy on the street. We went around 5 pm. The monuments and fountains were interesting. Had plaques explains things and their significance to the history of the city. Some of the shops were quaint, but it should be noted for families that several shops cater to the more hippie type lifestyle. Not judging - just... More

In the very center of everything Asheville has to offer, is Pack Square. An oasis in center city. From here, you can walk to pretty much anything in town. We saw fireworks on the 4th, visited the fire station, shopped, ate lunch on the green. Public restrooms are available. Just a nice place to meet your clan or regroup.

Heart of Asheville, great place to cool off little ones in the fountains, and attend wonderful free events on summer evenings! We danced at the Shindig on the Green!

This is just an average town square. I would spend no more than 10 minutes here. Do not make it the reason for your visit but if you are near by it is worth saying hello.

The open space of the square is very nice in the heart of the city. There is much to do along the margins of the square and even more within walking distance.

Wandering around this area is quite interesting, artsy and diverse shops, cafes, bookshops, sometimes music by street musicians. Don't go into the Scottish shop as the woman owner is very rude and told us and several others that unless we were going to buy something not to come in.

It's a bit misleading because people think the small park is the attraction but the actual appeal the surrounding area. There's not much to the park, although it is probably worth checking out but the area is quite nice!

Laid back environment and comfortable dining. Good food and service. The atmosphere is a bit like "Cheers"

We stumbled across this area while exploring downtown. My daughter got soaking wet playing in the fountains, which really helped her cool off on the hot day. My husband, a former Marine, enjoyed the memorial set up there.
