We went to Sliding Rock at the end of August on a weekday. There was no lifeguard, no one to pay at the station, and the restrooms/changing area were locked. It was nice, though, because there were only a couple of other families there, so there was no wait to slide. I highly recommend a life jacket for little ones... more

The water is 48-58 degrees all year. So the sign says going into this place. It was the dog-days of August so I thought, "No way." But it was. I tried to keep a cool look on my face as I plunged into the icy pool at the bottom but I'm sure I looked like most of the other brave... more

We went here on a very hot day so it was very crowded. $1 per person for unlimited times down the rock--SO worth it! There are changing rooms but no lockers so don't bring your valuables. I felt a little silly at first (my husband and I, 26 and 27, surrounded by young families). BUT, when we got into the... more

Sliding Rock was one of the best dollars I've ever spent! If you like waterslides and nature, this is one you MUST do! The water is COLD! There's also a STRONG current in the pool at the bottom of the falls. Not recommended for weak swimmers, but there are lifeguards on duty. Once I turned off of the Parkway and... more

Sliding Rock is a natural water slide that empties into a cool mountain pond. Located in Pigsah National Forest it is close to Looking Glass Falls and several other beautiful destinations. You must know how to swim to go down alone. Neither of my children know how to swim and they were accompanied by their father. The fee to enter... more

I last visited Sliding Rock around 1977-8, so I was overdue for a return. We went around 2:00pm on a June Saturday--a week before 04 July--and it was fairly crowded. The entrance fee is $1/person, not $1/car. No matter, it's a small price to pay. The area around Sliding Rock is quite nice, with clean restrooms and safe-seeming stairs down... more

My girlfriends and I went on a road trip after nursing school and we decided to check out Sliding Rock. It's not just for the kiddies, so bring your suits! We were there in June in the middle of the week and there were no lines or waiting. There is a small fee to get into the park, but it... more

Just returned from Asheville, NC with DH and sons. With two adventuresome young men in our house, we HAD to go check out Sliding Rock. It is wonderful. There is no lifeguard on duty after Labor Day, so swim at your own risk. And--be prepared--the water is COLD. It was so cold it took me and my sons' breath away.... more

It takes your breath away!!! But, seriously, this place is so beautiful and impressive...plus there's a lot of beautiful land to hike and camp on. The town of Hendersonville is worth checking out, as well - make sure you go to the General Store, it's fantastic! more

On a hot summer day, it's worth a trip through the Pisgah Nat'l Forest for 2 things: Sliding Rock and Looking Glass Falls. If the lines aren't too long, you can have some fun on the 60-foot natural waterslide that ends up in a cold, seven-foot deep pool. Then drive 2 miles down the road and climb down to the... more
