Mast General is one of those must stop at stores, just to browse if you wish. They have excellent quality outdoor gear for your hiking needs. All of the brand names you would want. MG has really good sales throughout the year. I often get discounts at about half off. Plentiful in nostalgic back in time merchandise. Bringing our dog... More

Outdoor clothing abounds here... Colombia, North Face, Woolrich, Mountain Hardware, Kule, just to name a few. Clark's, Merrill's, Keen's and more on the lower floor. Hiking and camping accessories available. A candy section, toy section, and home section round this store out. Not so much a flash from the past kind of place, so come here looking for great deals... Was hoping to see more old times type of items to purchase but was overwhelmed with clothing and shoes. I remember going here back in 2007 and it was much more enjoyable. I was very disappointed but there is a parking garage right across the street.

The windows all decked out for the season made me curious as to what shopping treasures were still to be discovered. A fun store filled with history of an old-time mercantile, candy, clothes, jewelry, toys, footwear and more. Step inside to see for yourself. I found a gorgeous seasonal top hidden amongst "practical" tops.

I'm sure Mast General Store is fun year round. But it really got us into the Christmas spirit. The store is fun to browse.

Having been fortunate enough to have visited some spectacular "general stores" such as Walls Drug in South Dakota, the Vermont Country Store in Weston/Rockingham, and Zeb's General Store in New Hampshire, I feel somewhat qualified to say that "Mast" is not a real general store. To me, it's more of an upscale outfitter with some seriously overpriced nostalgic candies and... More

This really is the place you can find just about anything- for your kitchen, clothes, candy, anything. You can't help but explore the racks and shelves, discover things you haven't seen in years (including my very first lunch box!) and find treasures. I found the prices reasonable and the merchandise of great quality. Its worth a visit, as chances are you... More

First floor is some real serious stuff for outdoor enthusiasts, particularly hiking and backpacking. Didn't look closely enough to rate the pricing, but brands and quality were excellent. Upstairs is the fun stuff; candy in barrels, humorous signs, good quality souvenir type t-shirts at good prices. We enjoyed our visit and came away with some "treasures". Just a hint, go... More

Have to disagree with the person who called it a tourist trap. The store in Asheville has real outdoor clothing and boots, as well as old-fashioned candy, toys, and memorabilia. Definitely worth a visit if you're in that part of the city.

Enjoyed looking at toys that I had forgotten about. Even my daughter saw things there that brought back memories.
