Spent a few hours here on our way out of Asheville. It was a reasonably warm sunny day which made it enjoyable. The kids spent some time on the indoor activities such as the dinosaur exhibit. It is small and half the games that they have for it were broken but the kids still had a decent time. Took a... More

We are members of the Arboretum and we frequently visit to see the many varieties of flowers, plants and shrubs. In addition, the Arboretum has numerous exhibits, flower shows, and artwork that changes periodically, as well as excellent trails. The gift shop is excellent too! All of this is wonderful -- but many visitors probably overlook the Savory Thyme Cafe.... More

Gorgeous gardens. Our only regret was not having enough time to see everything. We will definitely be back!

We visited the NC Arboretum during spring break from Florida. Turns out spring in Florida is not spring everywhere else, and in fact NC was a bit cold and dismal in mid-march. My kids wanted to go hiking though and we had never been to the Arboretum so I thought it sounded like a nice place to go for a... More

You have to be pretty cynical not to like this place. A huge arboretum that allows you to walk along trails, that has some magnificent trees, nature trails, gardens and oceans of space just to run around. We went along the mountain trail and then the natural garden trail - all well signposted and about 4 miles in total. Past... More

Wonderful place to walk through the grounds, see whatever exhibit is being shown and take in the beauty of the surroundings.

The entrance is free, you pay to park. Not a bad deal at all. The building is very nice and modern. They have special exhibits all the time so it changes and is worth visiting many times a year. My favorite is the Bonsai tree exhibition. You can hike in from the trails about a mile or two down if... More

The trails here are numerous, varied, and beautiful. The time of year determines what kind of beauty is found. The visitor's center is well done, as is the education center. Something for everyone. There are many varied garden areas that are great photo ops no matter what time of year. I am always drawn to the bonsai exhibit: amazing. Check... More

I am not exactly sure what the two major buildings are for. Both buildings are beautiful. Certainly not what you would expect for a state facility. The lowest bidder did not build this place. They had a dinosaur exposition in one and the other had a cafe and a bunch of class rooms. The dinosaur exposition took about 10-15 minutes.... More

The Arboretum grounds include a Bonsai exhibit and many native plants as well as programs. Great trails along creekways and special gardens within the trail system. Wide accessible trails for biking and hiking. Dog friendly. Meandering streams and abundant forest make it one of the cooler places to walk in the summer. Just off the Blue Ridge Parkway and about...
