My boyfriend and I spent a weekend at the Shoji Retreat for a quick getaway. We love Asheville, and any excuse to visit is a good one if you ask me. The retreat is atop a hill - not really a mountain, but certainly elevated. This of course means, that you will have to drive up some steep roads. The... More

A wonderful and relaxing treat. This is a wonderful and romantic way to spend an afternoon. The scenery was beautiful and the staff excellent.

The best hidden gem in Asheville! Shoji is a hidden away, indoor/outdoor japanese /zen style retreat that sits on the top of a mountain. When you first turn in at the sign, off of Avondale rd you will wonder where am I heading?? It's private steep little road that winds through a neighbourhood and up around the mountain, finally comes to... More

It was difficult to decide on a rating for this spa. It is a mix of lovely buildings and facilities. The massage rooms feel like they are outdoors. And, today the temperature relects that. We went on a chilly day and the rooms were quite cool. There were no heating pads under the table covers. We were never freezing but... More

I'm an optimist. I pride myself in the ability to find the beauty in most things & I generally have a good time no matter what. So, I'll start with this: Shoji spa was located in a beautiful area, away from the hustle & bustle. The soaking tubs were very private & well thought out & the view over Asheville... More

We visited as a family get-away on the occasion of my sister's birthday and could not have been more pleased. We stayed in the clean and quiet two-bedroom Lodge, one of only two on-site accommodations. It features a modern, well-stocked kitchen, a spacious deck, and a cozy fireplace, and is very peaceful, moderately priced, and a great place for a... More

My partner & I did the winter warmth package and were very disappointed by the massages. They were one of the worst either of us have received. The experience was relaxing, but all the ailments we came in with (tight shoulders, stiff lower back), we also left with. Some sequences of "massage" were not even repeated on both sides of... More

We visited Shoji resorts the weekend before New Years 2012-2013. First, the drive up to the resort is not relaxing but a bit nerve racking. Be prepared not to make it if there is snow on the ground. Also, there is not too much room for two way traffic. We arrived early and they allowed us to shower and use... More

Went with a group of 6 and we got to experience the whole package!!! The sauna, plunge pool, outdoor hottubs with great views and then couples massages that were very relaxing. What a beautiful place and a great experience. It is a must do in Asheville!!!

This spa has private outdoor hot-tubs that you rent by the hour! It was so relaxing and perfect for a cool day to stay warm in the hot tub. It can be very romantic if it were after dark and I think you can bring your own wine. If your looking for something different, give this a try!

Thank you! The views at night from the hot tubs are beautiful - sky, stars, the lights of downtown Asheville - and very romantic! And, yes, you can bring wine or your own beverages. Just be sure to let us know if you have a glass container so we can properly wrap it for you to prevent breakage. More
