We were hiking 4 days in Big South Fork and had dinner and breakfast at the Charit Creek Hostel. Staff was very friendly, very good food and got to enjoy the atmosphere around the hostel. This is a great get away. We camped on the island near the hostel.

I heard about this little gem through a friend who said this is a "must see" nature spot. I arrived on a Saturday afternoon this Spring season. It was warm and the sun was beaming through the trees, making the 1.2mile hike to the cabins a beautiful adventure. Seeing Charit Creek for the first time my first thought was, "Wow"!... More

I discovered this spot after disappointments with the LeConte Lottery process. I wanted to stay overnight but I was traveling with a party of non-campers. So we hiked the Twin Arches loop and stopped by to check it out. We received a friendly greeting, info about the lodging, refreshments for purchase, and some history of the site. The manager was... I would recommend this place to anyone who loves the great outdoors and can safely hike back in for about a mile. I carried a simple book bag to hold a water bottle, a flashlight, camera, p.j.'s, jacket and comb. If you plan to take a nice warm shower, BYO soap, towel, etc. Bathrooms are in a separate building and... More

My Grand and great grandchildren loved this place. Took four wheelers back on the trails to the old gravesite of my great great great Grandfather Johnathon Blevins.

This rustic lodge can be reached by hiking just over a mile from the closest parking lot. You can stay hostel style or for a bit more money they will prepare good hot meals for you. They supply wood for the fireplaces in the bunkhouses and hot showers. There is a nice dining area where you are served your meals... More

This place is so cool!! It was definitely worth the hike there. My father and I stayed in a bunk room on a cold January night with 10 other hikers and it was warm and clean! We shared Charit Creek with a Sierra Club outing, Boy Scouts and about two dozen other hikers with the Sheltowee Trace Association. The room... More

Charit Creek is a beautiful place to visit. Nice and quiet, great getaway. However it advertises fresh food made daily. My first visit to Charit, we had canned chicken and dumplings for dinner along with canned vegtables. My trip last month, we had frozen Stouffer's lasagna and canned green beans. Meals are definitely not as advertised.

If you want a special experience then plan an overnight horseback or hiking trip to Charit Creek. Deep within the Big South Fork National River & Recreation area this old lodge takes you back to a time of the settlers of this area. Fireside dining by lantern of simple food after a day of exploring is a real treat. The... More
