This short detour is well worth it, should you happen to be in the area visiting Los Alamos or Bandelier. It is just off the main road through the town of White Rock, just a few miles from Los Alamos and just down the road from the visitor center where you catch the shuttle to Bandelier. Here you'll find a... More

Driving into Los Alamos from Albuquerque, it's a long winding upgrade, so be sure to take the time to pause at this magnificent overview of the valley below. It's worth the time. Also remember to turn around if you love rocks - and marvel at the contours behind you. Makes you understand how Los Alamos came to be... such a... More

The scenery here is breathtaking and the geographical make-up is astounding, the drive is worth the scenery and I would do it again. White Rock overlook hangs out over the Rio Grande River it is beautiful and breathtaking, The area is not of volcanic rock like Los Alamos but is rock that is like magma the Rio Grande looks like... This is probably the best place to view the Rio Grande! The elevation must be at least 400 feet and the view of neighboring mesa's....sweet. Parking was wide open.... a local best kept secret one must think.

This viewing point must be one of the best kept secrets of New Mexico, rather .like what goes on at Los Alamos just up the road. It is minutes away from the Visitors Centre in White Rock and so worth a visit. The views of the Rio Grande are superb and to experience them in solitude and quiet, apart from... More

Beautiful! Was asking the front desk about their shuttle and we started talking and he mentioned this place. When I got back to the room my wife was interested so we stopped on the way to Bandoleir. It was a great stop. With the recent rain we were able to see a water fall. It was a great quick stop... More

Gorgeous canyon carved by the Rio Grande River with the lightly snow covered Sangre de Cristo Mountains in the background. Two fine hikes take off them this area down to the bottom of the canyon. See website for more details. Nice place to have sack lunch. Stunning not to be missed.

A small car park at the end of the road (you go through the housing estate and past the sports parks) and then a very short walk to the view point. You get a 270 degree view and it's definitely worth a short detour.

This is a lovely little drive with a great view at the end. It is a little hard to find, so pay attention to the signs.
