This was my second time to Bandelier, this time with an elven year old child. I was concerned that my nephew may not like the site, but he loved climbing up to the Alcove House and into the Kivas. The paved pathway makes this an easy walk and the trip to the upper falls is worth the hike. more

Archaeology always interests me, so this was a wonderful day trip. Plus, the geology is as interesting as the ruins. We went in early June, so we had no problem with parking. We enjoyed a bit more serendipity when we had a personal tour of the main loop with one of the park's rangers who gave a wonderful presentation on... more

What a great day trip from Santa Fe. Costs $12 to enter the park. We went on the main trail and then the trail to Alcove House. The main trail takes about 45 minutes, nice scenic walk. The walk to the Alcove House is awesome, you have to walk up ladders. You should keep in mind this is best for... more

We arrived by 8:00 a.m. and the parking lot was nearly empty. By the time we left three hours later, you couldn't find a parking place. Bandelier National Monument is a national park with hiking trails, visitor center, shop and snack bar. Hiking the main loop trail is what most visitors seem to do and you can watch archeologists hard... more

Bandelier is a great day trip from Santa Fe, and well worth the 1 hr. drive. New to the the Southwest, it was great to see some of the scenery on the way out and experience the landscape and history at the park. We took the leisurely main loop hiking trail, easy for most people. I would highly recommend a... more

We had to opportunity to visit the Santa Fe area. I must admit that we were a bit underwhelmed by our first visit to the area. Bandelier is one the sites worth visiting if you're in the area. Perhaps 1,000 years ago it housed ancient tribe of Native Americans. Named after Swiss Antropologist Adolph Bandilier of Switzerland. Once you past... more

We had a wonderful time hiking the Frey Trail in the canyon and exploring the many caves/homes in the rocks. The ladders were fun to scramble up and down and were in excellent shape. The Alcove House is not to be missed (barring in fear of heights). You climb up 140 ft of ladders to reach this ceremonial site. Wish... more

Okay, bear in mind that (1) we're talking commissary-type, very, very low profile dining in the cafe off the tourist shop at Bandelier. Bear in mind also that (2) it was raining --really, POURING-- and that we were in excellent spirits because it was my Dad's birthday and he, my sister and I up and took ourselves a little holiday... more

Bandalier is a hidden gem near Los Alamos that is well worth 2, 3 or more visits. Each time there will be something new to see and with the extensive trail system in the back country you can always get a little off the beaten path. The first stop when visiting is the overlook at the top of Frijolis Canyon,... more

This was the second time I have been in Bandelier. It is a convenient and hassle free way to see some of the Anasazi history. Bandelier park has two parts. The first is the most developed and most visted. There are organized walk ways and convenient latters to climb up into the cave dwellings. The remains of the village that... more
