I've lived in the DC area for a few years and knew of the area but didn't know there were these falls. It isn't like Multnomah Falls in Oregon or Niagra Falls but powerful and great to look at none the less. Just watching all that water and the pure power of it rushing over the rocks was pretty cool... More

Only short drive outside of Washington DC but it feels like you are in a completely different world. Great Falls National Park exemplifies why Virginia is one of the most beautiful States on the east coast! This hidden gem is tucked away from all the fast paced hustle and the politics of Washington and is one of the DMV's best... More

For your money, there isn't a better local destination for the whole family. While what you see is not always "breath taking", the park is very accessible, it has good parking and plenty to see. Plus, the "hiking" is essentially flat so little ones/older ones have no problem enjoying the walk. For those who are a little more adventurous, there... More

Lovely views of the falls from the overlook. Good for a nice stroll, no real hiking by the falls. You can bring pic is, there are grills as well as picnic tables scattered around. Can get very busy summer, early fall weekends.

eventhough it was freezing cold (29 degrees) when we got there, we found the place to be very pretty and calming. there was no wind that day so despite the low temperatures we were able to walk for over two hours. its hard to believe that such a remote and pretty place exists in the middle of a metropoilitan area.... Beautiful place to go right outside of DC for a hike. You will totally forget that you are in the city and will be able to relax. Going there totally recharges me and eases any stress or tension that I might have felt. As soon as I step out of the car I am like a new person. They have... More

Great Falls was impressive. We went to the Virginia side of the Falls. Our stay lasted about 2 hours. If you are really into hiking, you could stay there a lot longer since there are multiple trails. I have to warn you, this is rocky so you must have good traction sneakers and be very careful. The best views are... More

Wonderful stop on our way back from Baltimore. Breathtaking views. 3 different stops to view. We every braved the canoe launch site to get better photos. Went around 4 pm so it was very peaceful!

I have been here on more than one occasion. The nature trails are excellent. There are several places to view the falls and the Potomac River. I highly recommend that you put this on your list of places to visit.
