Great Falls National Park is only a short drive from the heart of Washington D.C. A place for family to enjoy the picnic and cooking out together. A place for hikers and walking trail for people like me. The Fall itself is enormous. One would not think that it is that close to urban areas of Washington D.C. Metro area.... More

Great Falls is a great place to stop to catch some nature. We visited on Memorial Day weekend, and as another reviewer had mentioned there was a wait to get in. Since I expected it, the wait didn't bother me - besides, it was spent on a road in the middle of the woods where you could listen to the... More

We went for a lovely hike along the trails at Great Falls today. Just beautiful! Hate to admit that I had never been to VA side!

My friend and I took a beautiful stroll on a Sunday afternoon in May. Although crowded for Memorial Day weekend, it was well worth our wait to find parking. We actually decided to go in through River Bend Park to the north and walk down along the Potomac River. The trail is a bit rough at times, but the views,... More

This is a beautiful stop that is a must. Give yourself several hours. There are lookout spots as well as trails and the falls are just amazing. The power of the water pouring down the sides of the rocks...if you are into waterfalls or just experiencing something worth seeing...this should be one of your stops. There are places to picnic... Great Falls National Park is a year around must-see when in the DC area. The Potomac forms a wide swath of cascading falls, there are several observation points for easy viewing. The park has many ( easy) hiking trails and a large picnic area. It's a very popular park esp on Spring weekends when it's best to visit in the... More

For some reason when we were planing the first trip to Washington DC, we thought mostly about the downtown of the city. However our friends recommended us the Great Falls park and we didn't regret about it any minute being there. I would never imagine that right beside Washington DC there is such a unique place. I believed that to... More

I went on a Monday and it was pretty busy. I tend to enjoy solitude on my hikes so I was a bit put off by the amount of people there during the week but things tend to space out as you get onto the trails. The visitors center is worth a stop in. They have some information on the... More

Although it is located just a few miles from DC, in this park you will believe you are far away from city life. It is an historical and scenic treasure! History buffs will find the story of George Washington and the Canal very interesting, and nature buffs will enjoy the beautiful views and rushing water. Good for all ages, it's... More
