We took this road this afternoon, in my magnum rt awd 07. I just have to say this road is not good to drive. They should at least make it a dirt road. It is not good for your car. We took this road to go from Moab to Dead Horse Point, man did we make a wrong choice? I... More

This summer we visited Canyonlands NP and we were admired by the beauty of the place. From Dead Horse Point State Park I had noticed a trail (Shafer Trail) running along the rim and I asked at the Visitor Center if we could drive it. The ranger discouraged me because our intermediate SUV (Ford Escape) in his opinion was not... More

We took UT-279 for a few miles - beautiful rock walls and even an arch. We tried to take Long Canyon Road to Dead Horse Point State Park in our Honda Accord. Needless to say, we made it 2/3 of the way but couldn't get over the peak. Had to turn around and go the "regular" way. If you have... More

We enjoyed the view here on the Long Canyon Trail. It was fun to drive under the fallen rock.

We drove from the Moab direction (ie uphill) and it was all going great until we got near the top and had to go under the rock slab - help! got past that ok then had to go up Pucker Pass - Its not for the faint hearted - much easier if were going downhill ( and this is an... More

We were at Canyonlands (Island) visitor center and I asked about returning to Moab through Shafer Canyon and the White Rim road. The Ranger recommended Long Canyon as a better bang for our buck. Boy was she right! What an awesome, fairly easy, 4x4 road! It takes you, steeply, down from the plateau to the Colorado river. Pucker Point is... More

You definitely need a 4x4 as the road is rough but the pass undr the 'rock' is cool and we sometimes picnic in the shade by it and watch others go thru - great entertainment.
