We had a great time on our private historical tour with Rick. There were 5 of us - two adults (one from Germany and unfamiliar with Civil War history), two history-buff teenagers and an 11-year old. The tour was both informative and fun - very interactive, allowing the two young civil war scholars to shine and keeping them really interested.... More

Harpers Ferry is one of the most amazing places around. It's atmosphere and wealth of things to do is unrivaled. Rick and his tours are absolutely part of what makes Harpers Ferry so unique and inviting. My husband and I make multiple trips each year and it never gets boring. Rick's historical tour is thorough and interesting. It caters to... More

Rick was just Outstanding !!! We sang,he told stories, the history behind the music even took the time to discuss some good books to read. The view from his balcony was amazing. My 10 yr old is still humming the confederate version of the battle cry of freedom and my two younger girls are STILL singing Dixie ( much to my... More

I took my two teenaged sons on an educational tour of key historical landmarks in U.S. history over their winter break. Rick led us on a fascinating, in-depth, walking tour of Harper's Ferry and its rich history. We were spellbound by his animated storytelling for over 5 hours! Not only does he make a striking impression in period clothing, but... More

On November 16th, our group of about 14 from the Knights of Columbus, the St. John Neumann Council of Elkridge, Maryland, went on the best historical tour I have ever attended. Rick Garland, of "O' Be Joyful" historical Tours was the most engaging guide. Our day began by attending 11:00 Mass at St. Peter's, then we had a bite of... More

We were able to take a Halloween night tour with Rick and it was amazing! He does a fantastic job of mixing Harpers Ferry history into the actual ghost stories! You never get bored of either one. Two stories were more gruesome than I expected but not bad. My husband said I was expecting the Casper the Friendly Ghost Tour!... More

Rick Garland's historical tour is a must do when visiting Harpers Ferry. Rick makes history come alive with his knowledge and storytelling ability. Rick's narratives are delivered as you walk through the streets and buildings of Harpers Ferry and enjoy the spectacular scenery. The tour lasts four hours but time passes quickly as you become immersed in the long and... More

Rick makes the history of Harper's Ferry come alive with his colourful stories and encyclopedic knowledge of Harper's Ferry history. He's a natural storyteller and very funny to boot. There's much more to Harper's Ferry than John Brown and the raid on the armory; the history goes back past George Washington - back to the early 1700's. Rick makes every... More

Loved this walking tour with Rick. He is a walking, talking, singing history book. Full of information about American History as well as Harpers Ferry and the surrounding areas. We thought a 4 hour tour was going to be too long but time flew by and we loved every minute. It was a good mix of walking, stopping and sitting... More
