Andersonville and the POW museum located within the park give one pause RE: war, treatment of those captured in battle, and give a sobering view of history repeating itself. Andersonville is the site of a Confederate prison designed to hold 10,000 men / but in fact, it held 32,000 men in the worst of conditions; over 13,000 prisoners died in... more

We are from Florida and decided to check this out while we were in Atlanta. We arrived at around 4:15 PM and when asked for the CD guided tour we were told it was almost time for them to quit giving them out. I explained that we were from Florida and did not know when or if we would we... more

Both the prison site and POW museum were very interesting and moving. I'd strongly recommend anyone with even the slightest interest in the Civil War to make the detour off I-75 to visit Andersonville. While in Andersonville take an additional 20 minutes to visit Plains, Georgia, birthplace of the 39th president, Jimmy Carter. more

Spectacular weekend with the family. Museum, POW camp and cemetery all held the attention of my kids (ages 5 - 11) and I loved the history. Museum was quite modern and presented well – even to the kids, good book/gift store, great monuments, grounds were well marked, informative guides and awe inspiring scenery. A must for any Civil War buff,... more

The site is well preserved, and the infamous creek running through the camp still looks bad (although surely not as bad as the diseased, putrid water that once went through the camp). The museum was great and added some insight to us (I went as an Officer Candidate). It was horrible to learn of the conditions that existed here, and... more

It's hard to really write a review of Andersonville, and the POW museum contained within the park. It's superb, but sobering. It's not a place that's warmly pleasant, but it's a place every American should visit at least once. Here you will learn the true horrors of war, from the prisoner-of-war standpoint. This encompasses all POWs, and not just those... more

The visit was an experiance that should be shared by all Americans. The trials that these heros endured are beyond most of our capabilities of comprehension. We, as Americans, could only hope that no one would have to endure this again. We should also be very ashamed of the ones we left behind in previous wars. The museum is informative... more

This place is a little off the beaten path, but worth the trip at least once if youre a history buff. The POW museum should be started with the film they show every hour. The walkthough is a nice compilation of pictures, stories, artifacts and even a few simulation displays. Its a little dark, but a piece of history. The... more
