I was recently in San Francisco for the first time and of course i had to do the Haight Ashbury flower power walkin tour. This was a real treat to mind and body. For all of you out there that are still secret internal hippies this is a must do. The guide was a young girl (young from my point... More

This is always a delightful tour, informative and fun. However, this was my first encounter with Stan (Stannous Flouride.. yes, really) who turned out to be a delightful guide. As you can imagine from his moniker, in addition to providing a wealth of knowledge about the Haight and that special long-gone era, Stan entertained us with great stories and much... More

We did this tour with Izu several months ago. It started off a bit slow, however half way through I realised the tour wasn't necessarily about seeing sights, but more about understanding the culture of the era, which Izu portrayed very well. When the tour finished, we had a good understanding of what it would've been like to be in... More

Even though the reviews on this tour were mixed, I booked it because I wanted to see what Haight Ashbury was all about AND it was affordable. Stan was our tour guide and he was a fount of information about the history of the Haight area. He told us plenty about The Summer of Love and it's impact and pointed... More

This was my favourite part of our trip. I just loved the shops. They had the granny gowns for the 60's and 70's and incense burning. The sidewalks are full of cracks and you can hear Janice Joplin belting it out as you're walking down the streets. We stopped at a small beauty salon and had a manicure for $10.00.... More

It is with sad news that I have to announce Izu has passed away. She passed away to be with her friends from the 60's. Please add to this comment stream of your experiences so we can keep her alive in our memories.

Our (adult) family of 5 went on the walking tour with Stan. We usually don't like to sign up for tours because of the time frames. I have to say this was the highlight of our entire trip to SF. Stan was so interesting and knowledgeable. He knew and spoke to many of the locals as we walked on the... More

Great trip thru the history of Haight Ashbury. Tour covered the history of this district and hit some of significant locations from it's hey day in the 60's. Terrific tour guide.

I don't know if things have changed with Izu but serious, I can't believe the 4 and 5 star reviews. I am not a difficult customer but this was ridiculous. Firstly she was 15 minutes late and seemed very shall we say "strange" . I'm sure she is a lovely person but as a tour guide- no. We were hoping... More

We spent a great Saturday morning walking around Haight Ashbury with Kevin Carney (aka Stan Flouride). He gave us so much information about the area, including the hippie era in the 1960's and 1970's. He told us about all the good, the bad and the tragic - The Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, Anissa Jones, the fire department, the trees, the... More

Staying in Haight-Ashbury

Neighborhood Profile
Haight-Ashbury
The area surrounding the intersection of Haight and Ashbury streets, “The Haight” still exudes vibes of the 1960s counterculture as a haven for vintage clothes, music, pop posters and body piercing shops. While the Summer of Love ended decades ago, Haight-Ashbury has turned into a melting pot of hippies, hipsters, and professionals. Walking through its streets can still feel like stepping back in time. A must-see neighborhood for most music fans, it’s easy to see why these streets attracted the likes of the Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin. You’ll likely be content in The Haight day or night, just be sure to wear some flowers in your hair.
