Stan, our tour guide was fantastic !! If you are interested in the culture of 60s, I would like to recommend this walking tour. It surely makes your stay in S.F. somewhat different. This tour takes you to inside of one of the historic building. After the tour, I entered what now becomes "Magnolia Gastropub and Brewery" and had some very delicious hamburger and craft beer.

My husband and I just finished the Flower Power walking tour. It was fantastic. Stan was our tour guide and he was full of insight and interesting information about the neighborhood. It wasn't totally about the hippies and the Summer of Love but included lots of other historical facts about the neighborhood including architecture. I would take the tour again... More

I did a walking tour with Stan. He is a long term resident and has a lot of insight and information about the history of Haight. Walking is a nice, slow pace, with many rest stops and very few hills. Easiest walk to be had in the city!

Fun and interesting, not just facts but real insight about the hippie era. Overall history, architecture, how and why it developed in popularity. Stan, our tour guide is a well known character in the Haight, we found him to be a colorful personality, and knowledgeable about the area. Our teenager enjoyed the tour too. Good to note that it is... More

My kids made no connection to the history and the musicians discussed in this tour. They are 12 and 14... So I would recommend for adults who are more familiar with the era.

Today we wandered "the Haight" with Stan Fluoride- We had a great time, enjoyed his insights (and politics) while walking through this interesting neighborhood. For any baby boomers this is an excellent tour- great way to spend an afternoon in San Francisco!

I took this tour several years ago with a different daughter. I found the tour this time to be even better. The areas visited were the same but the enthusiasm and knowledge of the young female guide made a nice difference. I learned more about the architecture on this tour, as well as the fun bits about the 60's, the... More

I was recently in San Francisco for the first time and of course i had to do the Haight Ashbury flower power walkin tour. This was a real treat to mind and body. For all of you out there that are still secret internal hippies this is a must do. The guide was a young girl (young from my point... More

This is always a delightful tour, informative and fun. However, this was my first encounter with Stan (Stannous Flouride.. yes, really) who turned out to be a delightful guide. As you can imagine from his moniker, in addition to providing a wealth of knowledge about the Haight and that special long-gone era, Stan entertained us with great stories and much... More

Staying in Haight-Ashbury

Neighborhood Profile
The area surrounding the intersection of Haight and Ashbury streets, “The Haight” still exudes vibes of the 1960s counterculture as a haven for vintage clothes, music, pop posters and body piercing shops. While the Summer of Love ended decades ago, Haight-Ashbury has turned into a melting pot of hippies, hipsters, and professionals. Walking through its streets can still feel like stepping back in time. A must-see neighborhood for most music fans, it’s easy to see why these streets attracted the likes of the Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin. You’ll likely be content in The Haight day or night, just be sure to wear some flowers in your hair.
