I enjoyed my Castro Walking Tour on my recent trip to San Francisco very much. Kathy, our guide, was friendly, personable and knows what she is talking about. The tour balanced the light and funny with the serious very well, and I am happy to recommend it to other people, gay or straight.

An excellent walking tour. Not too academic and specific, delivered clearly and with heart. A couple of lovely chance encounters with local residents who've lived there for years made it all the better. Do it, you won't regret it.

Kathy is a great guide - clearly knowledgable and passionate about the neighbourhood with a gentle and humorous style. Covers some really confronting and inspiring topics. Spent an equal amount of time trying not cry and laughing my butt off. Highly recommend to anyone open-minded with an interest in Civil Rights.

Kathy did an fantastic job of explaining the background and history of the Castro and the LGBT community. I've been to SFO numerous times, but this is the first time for the Castro tour. Wish I had done it sooner. Cathy from AZ

Kathy was great. She really knows her stuff and is very proud of it. She presents the history of the LGBT community in a fun, informative way with much pride. It is a very important history lesson for us all to learn. She is very involved in her community and with people involved, a community (of any kind) WILL THRIVE.... More

This was a very informative tour and we would recommend it 100%. Kathy strikes the right balance of detail and humor and we ended the time feeling enlightened and inspired. We met some lovely people as well, always a bonus. No hills and a gentle pace so accessible to all

Taking this tour is a great way to visit the Castro for the first time, especially to learn more about the history. For example, you get to see where the Aids quilt was first started and of course Harvey's photo shop. A visit to the museum after the tour really adds knowledge about the historical events of the area.

My boyfriend and I took this tour and loved it. As a resident of the Castro, Kathy is very knowledgeable and open to any questions. Her warmth and friendliness are apparent and give you an overall sense of the feeling within the Castro community. I would definitely recommend this tour if going to San Francisco...I think everyone can learn something... More

Neighborhood Profile
The Castro
A flourishing commercial area that acts as San Francisco's LGBT community center and cultural heart, the Castro is a neighborhood welcome to everyone. As one of the first predominantly LGBT neighborhoods in the United States and currently its largest, it remains one of the epicenters of activism in the nation. Grand theaters and glitzy shops now compete with bars and fashionable eateries for attention, drawing visitors from around the world to the bright rainbow flag acting as its beacon.
