Kathy did our tour and was fantastic. She was incredibly knowledgeable about her neighborhood/community, and was sensitive when talking about delicate subjects-yet didn't shy away from those topics as they are part of what makes the Castro "Castro". The perfect way to spend two hours learning about this key cultural ingredient of San Francisco.

Kathy is a wonderful tour guide with so much knowledge and such a lovely way of telling it. She looked after me with photos etc because I was on my own. It was a great tour and afterwards I enjoyed a lovely lunch at Harvey's where I met some lovely locals. Highly recommend!

For this local taking the tour with some out of town friends was a real treat. I'm a thirty plus year resident of SF Lesbian and history buff so i figured it would be entertaining at least. I actually learned some stuff i didn't know. Kathy was very funny and down to earth. My Aussie pals were impressed and so... More

There is so much to see in the Castro, so you need to take this tour. Cathy gives a very comprehensive tour, you will learn a lot about the history of this vibrant neighborhood. Wear walking shoes and bring your camera.

My sister and I had a great time on our walking tour of the Castro. Kathy is a great guide, has a thorough knowledge of the area and its history. The walk itself is at a very accessible pace, would highly recommend the tour as an activity to get to know the Castro and SF. Thank you Kathy for a... More

I enjoyed my Castro Walking Tour on my recent trip to San Francisco very much. Kathy, our guide, was friendly, personable and knows what she is talking about. The tour balanced the light and funny with the serious very well, and I am happy to recommend it to other people, gay or straight.

we had a wonderful time learning more about gay history and culture. Kathy is an excellent guide and the tour group of 4 interacted well. It was a lovely 2 hour stroll and it was inspiring to hear of Kathy's activism in the community. Highly recommended.

An excellent walking tour. Not too academic and specific, delivered clearly and with heart. A couple of lovely chance encounters with local residents who've lived there for years made it all the better. Do it, you won't regret it.

Neighborhood Profile
The Castro
A flourishing commercial area that acts as San Francisco's LGBT community center and cultural heart, the Castro is a neighborhood welcome to everyone. As one of the first predominantly LGBT neighborhoods in the United States and currently its largest, it remains one of the epicenters of activism in the nation. Grand theaters and glitzy shops now compete with bars and fashionable eateries for attention, drawing visitors from around the world to the bright rainbow flag acting as its beacon.
