I really liked this walking tour. I found out things about the Castro I never knew about and I had taken a similar tour 20-something years ago. Our tour guide was very attentive of us, never rushing though anything, checking to see if we had any question. She really knew her stuff. Anyone interested in the GLBT beginnings, struggles and... Excellent discussion of a very common but difficult subject by a very experienced guide that has lived the life. A very special treat to a very interesting and colorful area and lifestyle in SF.

Throughly enjoyed this walking tour this morning. Lucky enough that a small group meant we each had individual attention from the knowledgable Kathy. A great introduction to the history and the present of this iconic area.

I cannot recommend Kathy enough. Extremely knowledgable about the subject matter with a pleasant charm that is a great combination for a tour guide. She made an interesting subject that much more enjoyable. Whenever I have guests in town I would not hesitate to suggest them to take this tour, I would even go on this tour again! Thank you... If you are interested in the gay movement's story, this tour is a must-do! The guide is totally great, she is very friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about the neighborhood. The tour lasts two hours, and it's not physically demanding. We were completely satisfied with the experience.

Kathy is a great tour guide, and talked and walked us through the history of the Castro district. Every one of our group of six loved the tour. Highly recommend.

A must do to hear the history of the LGBT community. The in depth knowledge of Kathy is great. The walk through the Castro with the history and stories brings to life the past. I highly recommend this tour.

Really enjoyed the tour today - Kathy really knows the area and she's really passionate about the Castro. Although i'd been to the Castro before, i'd never done a tour before - and I really felt like I learned a lot. It's an early start, but worth it.

Staying in The Castro

Neighborhood Profile
The Castro
A flourishing commercial area that acts as San Francisco's LGBT community center and cultural heart, the Castro is a neighborhood welcome to everyone. As one of the first predominantly LGBT neighborhoods in the United States and currently its largest, it remains one of the epicenters of activism in the nation. Grand theaters and glitzy shops now compete with bars and fashionable eateries for attention, drawing visitors from around the world to the bright rainbow flag acting as its beacon.
