Perfect spot for hang gliding, with beautiful views over the coast and the sea. You can hike the trail all the way down to the beach, and watch the daring hang gliders use the thermal currents and soar in the sky.

Brought our puppy here for the first taste of the ocean. It's a very picturesque spot, not too far from the city (allow extra time for traffic at certain hours). It's very dog-friendly, and you will see many dogs on and off leash. On the day we were there, they were all well behaved. The hike down to the beach... More

Nice to be out in nature and simultaneously have views of the city AND the pacific. Lots of dogs, but mostly, amazingly well behaved.

When there is wind, the hang gliders just walk off the cliffs surrounding the beach below and travel parallel to the cliffs above the beach with the Pacific Ocean beyond. It's a quiet trip for the hang gliders, and it's also fascinating for the watchers. There's a nice observation deck that is adjacent to the launch area. In addition, these... More

We found this place by accident. It was a beautiful warm Saturday & hard to find parking along the beaches so we turned in here. There's a short but hilly walk to the beach so we sat just above it on some rocks. We loved watching all the dogs running around & all were so well behaved. We stayed to... More

High up on cliffs over the pacific, you can visit the WW2 gun emplacements, watch the dog-walkers, get sand in your shoes, and actually walk a good distance to the north, above the ocean. See the hang-gliders taking off and landing right at the parking lot.

I like Fort Funston because it is a fun place to walk on the beach, to play with dogs, and to watch the endless sea. This is a paradise for dogs. Different kind of four-legged friends, running, walking, playing and cheering for life. People here are relaxing and cheerful, sharing a positive outlook.

Very few tourists get here and not even all locals know about Ft. Funston, with its military history, hang gliders, dog walkers, windswept beach, and magnificent panoramic views.

Nice walk for dogs (45 min.). Loaded with other dugs for socialization. Water station. Can be windy at times so bring a jacket/sweater. Access to beach.
