We came to this venue to see the Nutcracker. It was our first time to this venue and we were pleasantly surprised by the history and architecture. We would definitely come back here to see another show!

My first time here. Came for the Nutcracker in December and was very impressed of the venue. The hall area was beautifully decorated in christmas and nutcracker themed decor. The tree was absolutely stunning and instantly put us in the christmas spirit. Arrive as early as possible in order to enjoy the ambiance, a beverage and to snap some photos... More

The Opera House was beautiful and was the perfect place to see The Nutcracker. The staff was polite and the house was grand. We had a great time. Even the inexpensive seats were fine for viewing the performance. Highly recommend a visit.

Our family of five came here to watch the Nutcracker. Parking at the Performing Arts Garage was easy. Make sure to give yourself plenty of time to get there. It is a short 5 minute walk to the Opera House. We arrived a little over an hour before show time. They locked the doors and we had to wait outside... More

I was so fortunate to recently attend opening night of the NUTCRACKER SUITE at the Opera House. It is so elegant, and they had "Snow" falling down from the Cupola's making it even better. From the old fashioned coat checks to the opulent interior, it will not disappoint. The acoustics are fantastic, and the view is good even from the... More

Beautiful venue! A Saturday evening performance of the San Francisco Opera at the War Memorial Opera House is quite a social event. La Boheme was the programme. We had some champagne before the performance and during the intermission. One can also choose to have dinner at the War Memorial before the performance. Parking is very organized.

I have had the opportunity to visit this opera house many times over the years. It has a comfortable amount of space, not too large and not too small. It is often full for weekend performances. The operas performed here vary from fabulous to an occasional mediocre performance. I highly recommend anyone to try an opera that they think they... More

This magnificent structure was built in the early 1930's, and was the final contribution to the Civic Center of San Francisco of buildings designed in the Beaux Arts style. It was dedicated to those who gave their lives in World War l, and was the first opera house in the country that was built with municipal funding. The City went... More

If I was reviewing this production and If I was the man sitting in the chair I would fall down and bomb my little head saying stupid, stupid, stupid. For the price we paid for this performance and redundant dance routines not to mention the two who announced each scene, made it look like a grade school PLAY.

Neighborhood Profile
Civic Center
Civic Center is the seat of power for all things government and performance-related in the city. Although its streets are best walked during daytime, numerous cultural gems are within close proximity to one another.
