One of the most beautiful libraries i ever been to. Staff is very knowledge and helpful and they have tons of nice and quiet rooms where you can sit and read. Also a nice patio on the top floor and one of the most beautiful collection of small books and older books that you can see by appt. The bad... More

I've had a library card since I was 6 and I use to live right down the street from the one in my neighborhood. It was my earliest way of escaping into my imagination. I read Black Beauty the summer I was seven. I would come home with armloads of books. I read fairy tales, Nancy Drew mysteries and Helen... More

The Library has many events that are free to the public. I recently attended a lecture on "Les Troyens" that was outstanding. Lecturer/composer Dr. Timothy Flynn had flown from Michigan to discuss this little performed magnificent opera. The SF Opera Guild sponsors these lectures before the opening of many of its productions. I have also attended several screenings of movies... More

I would give it a top rating except for the HUGH amount of strange/down on their luck people in there. I mean a HUGH amount: And when you least expect it, they come around a isle or out from no where and scare the hell out of you. I think there is more of them and security then library patrons.

Beautiful building, very spacious, great collection of books and a nice exhibit of local history on the upper floors. The children's center is large and a nice space for kids to stretch out and read a good book (or look at pictures). It is in the middle of the Civic Center Plaza. They have nice events throughout the year, and... More

This library has many great exhibits in it. It has 6 floors and much to see. Every Thursday they show a movie in their 200 seat theatre. Visit here while in San Francisco. It is right across from San Francisco City Hall, so visit that also.

I haven't been in the SF Library for years. I popped in their the other day and WOW, was I surprised how nice the remodel looks. I really felt like I was in a Library or Museum in New York!! You must go and get a membership. They have a huge DVD and Music section to check out. And what... More

Very clean, and organized. Easy to handle, staffs were nice and friendly helpful too. Good to stay there enjoy the environment. The only thing was not happy about: A lot of homeless to use this facility, but they do not bother you.

Staying in Civic Center

Neighborhood Profile
Civic Center
Civic Center is the seat of power for all things government and performance-related in the city. Although its streets are best walked during daytime, numerous cultural gems are within close proximity to one another. The symphony, opera, ballet, and jazz center offer year round entertainment within the shadow of the city’s Beaux-Arts crown jewel: the gold tipped dome of City Hall.
