Best place for musicals in SF

Watched a few musicals (Wicked, Les Miserables, etc) here! But parking's bit hard to find (as with most places with SF)

My husband and I saw Matilda here, and were thoroughly impressed with both the theater itself and the performance. A bit pricy ($85 each for orchestra or mezzanine seating on a Sunday night, which was the least expensive we looked at), but money well spent. The neighborhood itself surrounding the theater didn't seem to offer much. We ate at Sam's... More

Living in NYC it is rare I see a traveling show of a Broadway show that I’ve already seen on Broadway. However this was a wonderful experience. Yes it was a fundraiser so I am sure the crowd was a little more “ready” to be entertained by Kinky Boots but the Beauty of this Vintage theatre will not change from... More

Saw Matilda, a hit musical with touring company. I had seen the original in London in 2012. The production was poor compared to my previous experience. But the theater is every bit as nice as other large stage theaters on Broadway or elsewhere.

This is a well-cared-for and well-appointed landmark in a somewhat iffy neighborhood. Security folks look cold but are pleasant -- just don't ask them to take your photo. They're not permitted. The indoors folks will tell you why there are more ladies restrooms than men's--the architect apparently was a woman -- and you will need an elevator or to take... More

It's an old theater showing most Broadway traveling shows.... Nice old interior. But of couse like many old theathers seats are small and can be un comfortable. Bathrooms are weirdly located on the basement. But if you come and see a show...... Just come and enjoy......

I first went to this theater when I was in grade school. I saw The Sound of music with my classmates sometime in the 60's. In 1968 I was wowed by the film 2001: a space odyssey. I have since see Lennon the stage play with my husband and taken my young adult daughter to see Wicked, after she read... More

It is always a thrill to go to The Theater. Some of the best Musical Shows & Perfomances happen at the Orpheum Theater.. My experiences have always been positive. The Theater, itself, is Vintage, & just fun to see & be in. Walk & look around. Hearing devices are available. Bus Service is close & convenient. If you love The... More

The walk to the theatre takes you through a sketchy neighbourhood with all manner of homeless people, but once you're there you'll revel in this stately theatre with frescoed walls. I had a second balcony seat to see The Book of Mormon and it was excellent -- the show and the view.

The Book of Mormon was amazing, the theater is beautiful, it's right outside the BART station so it's crazy easy to get to and from.

Staying in Civic Center

Neighborhood Profile
Civic Center
Civic Center is the seat of power for all things government and performance-related in the city. Although its streets are best walked during daytime, numerous cultural gems are within close proximity to one another. The symphony, opera, ballet, and jazz center offer year round entertainment within the shadow of the city’s Beaux-Arts crown jewel: the gold tipped dome of City Hall.
