Locals run these stairs

Maybe it was the time of day I was here, but unlike Fillmore or 16th Avenue, there were quite a few people running these stairs with reps, and timing themselves. I found the lower stairs a bit too steep for my comfort of running, so had to pull over halfway up this portion to let a runner by. The upper... More

We walked down Lyon Street from our hotel on California Street. We walked to the to the Palace of Fine Arts and then back up. There are stopping points along the way to catch your breath. Young people are running them but it was not too congested. Loved seeing Dianne Feinstein's house, the Immigrant Heart, and views of Alcatraz as... More

Our daughter who lives in lower Pac Heights said this was a popular walk for locals. What she failed to mention was how steep the steps were and why they were so popular. Well, we survived and took our time enjoying the view and taking several pics along the way. The view was worth the effort and we paced ourselves... More

Returned to San Francisco and delighted to find the Lyon Street Steps available for trekking up and down. This is OFF the beaten path and known to locals. Arrived as the fog still hide the Golden Gate bridge from view. Up and down several times. Quite a workout. Enjoy!

Between Pacific Heights and Cow Hollow, just on the edge of Presidio and not far from the Palace of Fine Arts (with its stunning dome) are the Lyon Street steps. The views from the top are spectacular! You've got the bay at the end, the lovely mansions with the beautiful hedges and flowers on one side and the trees from the... More

These steps were part of a Pacific Heights walking tour provided by our hotel - worth seeing - right adjacent to the Presidio - beautiful views - locals use this area to exercise - they all must be in perfect shape to run these steps!

This place is a secret spot in San Francisco. I loved to work out there while living in SF. I love the fact is not that crowded and not very touristic, even though it has an spetacular view of the Bay. Beautiful houses with lovely gardens!

Many people seem to run up and down these steps for exercise. I'm not that energetic. I came for the stunning view and walked down the steps. At the bottom of the flight is a heart shaped sculpture that is beautiful. A walk down the steps, along Lyon Street, around the Palace of Fine Arts, will lead you to the... More

This is one of my favorite places to take out-of-town visitors because while standing at the top of the stairs, you have the most breathtaking view of the Palace of Fine Arts, and the San Francisco waterfront, including Alcatraz. The only caveat is you need to share the steps with multiple San Francisco residents who run up and down, repeat,... More

I've lived in the Bay Area my whole life, but just visited the steps for the first time last week. This is a gorgeous spot. Put on your running shoes and join the workout. The bottom staircase is steep and challenging, then it opens up to a wider section with manicured gardens and homes as beautiful as French chateaus. From... More
