So much history at this place. Must see if you haven't been. Take a picture and just explore the area. This is where gay pride is.

How beautiful and huge is this City Hall. It certainly was restored well after the 1989 earthquake destruction.

We saw the City Hall from all sides as we took a couple of bus tours. It's a beautiful City Hall! If you see it from a tour bus, you'll get some good information about City Hall that will add to your enjoyment.

A beautiful civic structure with an extensive mall which appears to represent a empire-like government in full control of its citizenry. And perhaps it is actually that on a sunny weekday. Unfortunately we went into this area on a Sunday and once we got past the edifice we became aware of a group of desperate homeless and addicts who make... More

Beautiful place for a ceremony. Elegant and additonally great for pictures. A bit difficult to park in the area, though

The Main Plaza yields some good photo opportunities to capture the beauty of this landmark. Avoid during the afternoon hours, as the sun does not work in your favor. Definitely a morning visit.

What a beautiful City Hall. Unfortunately an event was being set up in the Hall when we visited so we couldn't get to the stairs. Still got to take some magnificent shots of the rooms, the elaborate dome, and the famous staircase. A quick trip, must see. Takes about 30 minutes, (after you spend 30 minutes trying to find street... More

Well worth a look. This 100 year old building is majestic and elegant from both the outside and inside. If you are at Fisherman's Wharf you can take the F-line historic trolleys to 9th and Market Streets and City Hall is a block away.

This is a gorgeous building, inside and out, with some great photo opportunities, and there is a lot of history that you can learn walking around some of the exhibits on your own. We even saw a couple of weddings taking place! Sadly we didn't have very positive experiences with the free guided tour, but perhaps we were just unlucky.... More

Visited the city hall on the last day of our trip and it was an eye opener. It's a magnificent building, elegant and opulent in equal measure. We witnessed some weddings on the main staircase. It was heartwarming. If you appreciate historic buildings and fine architecture, the city hall is a must visit.

Staying in Civic Center

Neighborhood Profile
Civic Center
Civic Center is the seat of power for all things government and performance-related in the city. Although its streets are best walked during daytime, numerous cultural gems are within close proximity to one another. The symphony, opera, ballet, and jazz center offer year round entertainment within the shadow of the city’s Beaux-Arts crown jewel: the gold tipped dome of City Hall.
