This is a beautiful structure. It's an absolute must photograph! It works best In the morning so go early. It's an experience if you just want to see the building and walk around the place. The people that seem to sleep on the lawn didn't seem to bother anyone.

I stumbled in here as everyone told me it was one of the buildings in SF you have to see. The outside of it is absolutely incredible and the inside is pretty cool as well. The city runs free guided tours of City Hall Monday through Friday at 10:00am, 12:00pm and 2:00pm. I happened to get there right at 2:00pm... More

When visiting San Francisco don't miss the beautiful City Hall. We first saw it all lit up at night while taking a Double Decker bus tour and it is breath taking. Then we took a cable car downtown and visited it again on a Thursday morning. We had a free tour with a delightful woman named Judy. She told us... More

This building is astounding both internally and externally. There are free guided tours several times a day. I highly enjoyed the tour which at my time of visit included just me and another traveller. The many weddings taking place in the interior contribute to the atmosphere inspired by the decor.

I went to San Francisco thinking its a fine city. There are Homeless everywhere. There is the smell of Mariujuana while walking around San Francisco. I also saw some people being harassed be street walkers. It is all near City Hall. Also its expensive just to buy food. I stayed at a hostel and saw people eating noodles. I would... More

This is an amazing building. The architecture is reminiscent of early American architecture. This building is incredibly beautiful, especially at night when it is lit up. This is a must see sight in San Francisco.

This is a building worth checking out and it's free! Popular with wedding parties so there is always something to gawk at in between photos. Wander about and find Harvey Milk's bust and a bank vault !

A really beautiful building! The light court with its fabulous dome, intricate plasterwork columns, clock and gilded ironwork is truly amazing, in particular the stunning marble staircase. A few wedding ceremonies also taking place while I was there which was really lovely!

Staying in Civic Center

Neighborhood Profile
Civic Center
Civic Center is the seat of power for all things government and performance-related in the city. Although its streets are best walked during daytime, numerous cultural gems are within close proximity to one another. The symphony, opera, ballet, and jazz center offer year round entertainment within the shadow of the city’s Beaux-Arts crown jewel: the gold tipped dome of City Hall.
