Grand Opera tends to be performed exceptionally well here. The season runs September-December, with a shorter series presented in June-July. Many of the world's best singers are drawn to this venue. The schedule usually includes many of the old standards, but also newer operas, including some world premieres. Acoustics are extremely good.

Opera fans can count on top casts and a splendid pit orchestra, though, as most everywhere, it ain't cheap. There's a fall season from September till end of November, usually with 7 operas, and a Spring season iin June, with three, usually popular, with a Wagner Ring Cycle from time to time. Check well in advance!

We enjoyed a performance of SF Ballet here - seats were good, so score raised to 2*. At first we compared building to a mausoleum but then realised that we could not think of any mausoleum that was this austere and unadorned.....

We were lucky enough to be at the world premiere of a new ballet by san Francisco ballet. We had an good buffet meal there before the performance. If you want a cab after the performance see the usher on the south side to get your name on a list.

The venue is lovely and old, even the restrooms have that old world charm but with women's on one side and men's on the other. Before the production, lunch is served in the basement area with your choice of either restaurant style or cafe with sandwiches, salads, and coffee. Only bottled water is allowed in the theater, no food or... More

Great beautiful building, wonderful atmosphere and vibrant acoustics.it's a great place to visit if you are a fan of Opera.all you have to do is find a perfect 'seat' to watch and do not bring your teenager kids or those who are not interested in Opera. It will disappoint you only...like I did! There are plenty of options for great dinner.... More

The building was beyond beautiful. The ballet was exquisite, at least what I could see of it. I must have had the worst seat in the house (seat closest to the wall) and could not see the dancers or scenery on stage right:( Just a hint: The bathrooms are mens on one side and ladies on the other. I, of... More

The experience obviously depends mainly on the quality of the performance. But the SF Opera House is a great venue with a nice atmosphere, good acoustics, pleasant staff and good eating options. A special plus for the taxi service afterwards.

This was our first opera and we are now hooked. The pre-opera orientation was fantastic. It helped us know what was coming next. The opera house is a beautiful building!
