I'm not too much into opera, but a friend brought me. To my surprise, I loved the decor and the layout. Our seats were great and the performance was amazing.

Being here several times always a magical experience. If looking for perfect evening with your significant other get tickets in advance and start getting ready early. Go to the restaurant downstairs around 6:30 PM and just about 10' prior to the opera begins you walk to your box. Opera ends around 10:30 PM...

The opera house is located beside City Hall-great architecture to be appreciated around the Civic centre-exercise care if you are walking north of this area around the Tenderloin1

SF Opera nearly always has tickets available, so don't think that because you don't have tickets you can't go. Just go online and buy some! Get the best you can afford. Warning, it can be very hot in the Balcony.....SF Opera is high up in artistic accomplishment, usually putting on a fabulous show. You don't have to dress up, but... More

The building is beautiful. We went to see the Nutcracker in December and it was decorated for the season. Which made the building even more elegant.

I surprised my wife on her birthday and took her to the italian version of Cinderella by Gioachino Rossini at the SF Opera. Was a beautiful experience and we loved every bit of it! However, I rate it Very Good and not Excellent simply because of the seats. The seats were pretty old and felt very hard. The leg room... More

I was very lucky to watch La Boheme in November. Oh, it was an amazing experience. I bought a 87$ ticket and i thought that it was very expensive! At the end of night i did not regret about that...

My first "real" opera - and what fun! I have no idea what took me 55 years to finally attend the opera. Perhaps it was a fear that it would be "an acquired taste". How silly of me. La Boheme was witty, funny (the audience laughs!), spirited, a visual treat, and what amazing voices. I was thrilled. There is simply... More

The setting is amazing, the cast and orchestra were superb. The downstairs facility for snacks and drinks was elegant and fun for the kids.

Staying in Civic Center

Neighborhood Profile
Civic Center
Civic Center is the seat of power for all things government and performance-related in the city. Although its streets are best walked during daytime, numerous cultural gems are within close proximity to one another. The symphony, opera, ballet, and jazz center offer year round entertainment within the shadow of the city’s Beaux-Arts crown jewel: the gold tipped dome of City Hall.
