On June 7, 1974, Steve Silver produced a small show in the back room of the Savoy Tivoli Restaurant in San Francisco. The show was to run for six weeks. That was over 37 years ago... Today, Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon has the distinguished title of "World's Longest Running Musical Revue." The show - a musical spoof known internationally for its extravagant costumes, outrageous hats, show-stopping numbers and hilarious puns of pop culture and political character - has been seen by over 5.5 Million people, including HRC Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles and Camilla the Duchess of Cornwall as well as some of Hollywood's biggest stars."Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon," hailed as "a constant cascade of showstoppers" by the "San Francisco Chronicle", follows Snow White as she takes a fast-paced journey around the world in search of her "Prince Charming." Along the way she encounters a star-studded, ever-changing line-up of hilarious pop-culture characters, including President Barack & Michelle Obama, Gangnam Style, Prince William, Kate Middleton and the Queen of England, Honey Boo Boo, Governor Jerry Brown, Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj, Hilary & Bill Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Nancy Pelosi, Michael Jackson, Adele, General David Patraeus, "50 Shades of Grey," and The San Francisco Giants.

BBB is an institution in San Francisco and the longest running show in the US. It's a modern day Gilbert & Sullivan in that it incorporates satirical songs about today's political events. I've seen the show a number of times over the last 20 years and although you recognize some parts of the show, they are always adding in new... More

Coming from NYC and seeing shows on Broadway I wasn't sure what to expect from this show. The show is very contemporary incorporating current political events etc but still has the flair of the 1974 originality. It is apparently the longest running show in US. Not being from the U.S. We were a bit lost at certain stages of the... More

My wife and I had been to this show some 15 or more years ago at the recommendation of my father. My brother-in-law and I were in San Francisco this past weekend; I remembered I had enjoyed it so we were able to wrangle ourselves a couple of tickets. The show was incredible. The cast was amazing. They have great... More

I had high expectations- even came two hours early so that I could get a row front seat since they have a "first come, first seated policy". A young lady in a lawn chair was the only person in front of us. However, just when the theater opened, over 20 people emerged and got in line in front of us.... More

Okay, so first up, this is worth doing as it is iconic and some of it, especially the costumes and the performances, are stunning But some of the material is dated, some is downright offensive (well, to my companion anyway) and I was quite disappointed with some of the rewritten lyrics. Just felt like lazy writing. I would have given... More

My husband took me here on our vacation to SF and I am so glad he did! This musical was hilarious! The entertainment value is excellent. The jokes were on point snd the talent was nothing but the best! I was very very impressed with this show! The only downside is the seating. It is s little squishy and uncomfortable.... More

This my 4th time we see this show. Always as entertaining as the 1st time. The storyline follows Snow White on her search for Prince Charming. What follows is a hilarious relevant, entertaining musical adventure of her quest. The basic characters are a staple but always dusted with current "celebrities" and parodies of popular songs. A Must See in SF!

While we were not in San Francisco to be a "tourist," we were told by friends that we absolutely had to see this kitchy, campy show. Five minutes into this colorful, dramatic, just a tad bit crazy show, I was thinking "what the heck did I just pay to see" and then the laughs started. This show is definitely a... More

As a theater patron for years in San Francisco, I can honestly, and objectively state that this show us extremely overrated! The performance itself is mediocre. The seating is very uncomfortable. You are at the mercy of the theater regarding whether or not you will get any kind of beverages, which the theater does encourage with the misplaced tables they... More

A definite MUST see piece of theatre if you are visiting San Fran. The cast - some of them originals - are amazing and turn out a fantastic show. We took along my cousin who lives in San Fran and had never been and he couldn't believe he hadn't seen it before. The show is incredibly creative and current and... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
