On June 7, 1974, Steve Silver produced a small show in the back room of the Savoy Tivoli Restaurant in San Francisco. The show was to run for six weeks. That was over 37 years ago... Today, Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon has the distinguished title of "World's Longest Running Musical Revue." The show - a musical spoof known internationally for its extravagant costumes, outrageous hats, show-stopping numbers and hilarious puns of pop culture and political character - has been seen by over 5.5 Million people, including HRC Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles and Camilla the Duchess of Cornwall as well as some of Hollywood's biggest stars."Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon," hailed as "a constant cascade of showstoppers" by the "San Francisco Chronicle", follows Snow White as she takes a fast-paced journey around the world in search of her "Prince Charming." Along the way she encounters a star-studded, ever-changing line-up of hilarious pop-culture characters, including President Barack & Michelle Obama, Gangnam Style, Prince William, Kate Middleton and the Queen of England, Honey Boo Boo, Governor Jerry Brown, Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj, Hilary & Bill Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Nancy Pelosi, Michael Jackson, Adele, General David Patraeus, "50 Shades of Grey," and The San Francisco Giants.

An unusual & highly entertaining satirical show, taking the mickey out of everyone! "Snow White" is seeking a "Prince Charming" and travels the world searching for him, and is all set to various songs. There is no intermission and runs for approx. one and a half hours. The show has been running since about 1974, I`ve yet to work out... More

Do NOT miss this show! It is wildly funny, energetic, creative and one of the best things San Francisco has to offer (and that's saying quite a lot!)

The crazy costumes alone are worth the price of admission to this campy musical production. A blend of comedy, farce, and satire, this long-running show is entertaining and amusing.

Simply unbelievable and a must must see when in SF. The performances, singing, routines, costumes, mad hair and mad hats make this the most unique , innovative thing you will ever see

While we enjoyed some parts of the musical revue we missed most parts because the satire was US personalities, politics centered. Even many Americans missed out on some of the jokes and were not laughing. We also found the seating arrangement very strange as tickets were not numbered and it was first come first serve based. The seats were also... More

I just don't know what to say. Both my husband and I thought this show was a train wreck. Don't get me wrong, we are in no way prudes, we just found very little in this production to recommend it. I guess is you want a very campy, high school level production, that gives you a taste of San Fransisco,... More

We love to take visiting friends to see BBB. It is a cabaret style show in a small theater in the heart of North Beach. It is uniquely San Francisco and is fashioned around current events. Start the evening with a great Italian dinner and end with an entertaining show. It doesn't get any better than that.

We really enjoyed seeing the larger than life hats a tribute to San Francisco. This is an extraordinary musical and of course the jabs at the politicians are always lots of laughs. We sat middle 2nd row great seats easy to get in and out with an aisle behind you. The show started in 1974 and continues to play at... More

We really had a gread time. Taleted actors and singers. Time-proven classcs with a very current twist. It was a good thing we got there early. The seating is not designated, so it.'s first come first serve.

Really enjoyed the unique show. Great sound in the theater as well a good band accompanying the acts. The negatives for me were poor air quality, chairs packed so close together that there was no shoulder room and most seats were at floor level so there were many heads in the way of full view. There were no assigned seats... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
