On June 7, 1974, Steve Silver produced a small show in the back room of the Savoy Tivoli Restaurant in San Francisco. The show was to run for six weeks. That was over 37 years ago... Today, Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon has the distinguished title of "World's Longest Running Musical Revue." The show - a musical spoof known internationally for its extravagant costumes, outrageous hats, show-stopping numbers and hilarious puns of pop culture and political character - has been seen by over 5.5 Million people, including HRC Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles and Camilla the Duchess of Cornwall as well as some of Hollywood's biggest stars."Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon," hailed as "a constant cascade of showstoppers" by the "San Francisco Chronicle", follows Snow White as she takes a fast-paced journey around the world in search of her "Prince Charming." Along the way she encounters a star-studded, ever-changing line-up of hilarious pop-culture characters, including President Barack & Michelle Obama, Gangnam Style, Prince William, Kate Middleton and the Queen of England, Honey Boo Boo, Governor Jerry Brown, Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj, Hilary & Bill Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Nancy Pelosi, Michael Jackson, Adele, General David Patraeus, "50 Shades of Grey," and The San Francisco Giants.

A friend of mine had recommended this as a must do while in San Francisco. It is definitely a must do! I have never seen anything like this anywhere else during my travels and look forward to attending again while in San Francisco.

This show is an institution in San Francisco. It has been around for over 40 years yet it changes frequently to stay current. When I lived in the area, I would go see BBB every couple of years just to see how they were spoofing the latest news, politicians, and pop culture. It's hysterical, over-the-top, lively, and full of color.... More

This is a quintessential San Fran activity - like nothing else anywhere. It's a fun time - singing, dancing, crazy costumes (hats and all!). It moves quickly. The female singers are amazing with really strong voices. They recommend that you arrive early. We arrived almost an hour early and were seated right away. Note the bar is cash only and... More

Have seen this show at least 5 times over the last 20 years. They usually keep it fresh and fun. Went over Mothers Day weekend - the writing and jokes were predictable. Performers are great and the SF hat in the finale was incredible! Most of the pop culture jokes fell flat, though. Could not believe they trotted out Elvis... More

This show has a little of everything. If you are in the spotlight in the USA or world you are likely to be highlighted or low lighted here by talented performers with big hats. Definitely worth the price of admission. People come back often because the characters and costumes change as the world changes. That is what keeps it fresh... More

What a surprise! I heard about the show through tripadvisor reviews and thought it'd be something good to do to entertain us for an evening. It was much more than entertaining. It was very funny, fast paced and a really good time!

Witty lyrics, smooth transition between song, amazing cast with wonderful voice, most importantly that incredible (and ridiculous) hat designs!!!!! It knits all the current news in politics or entertainment together with stereotypes, and makes fun of everything everyone. Just have to see it at lease once! Suitable for any occasion- first date, friend gathering, family outing and else!

Glad we got tickets on Goldstar. This was a fun little musical with song & dance numbers that have lots of political jokes. We had heard it was hilarious. It was fun but not hilarious. If you have nothing better to do, it would be a nice night out.

We laughed while at the show and then laughed for days afterward. This is a great place to go with friends and no mater your politics you will have your toes stepped on. All is in good fun and done with the largest and most outrageous hats possible. I was asked by my daughter in law to describe the evening... More

The show was great - very talented performers, awesome music, great costumes, something anyone who has some general knowledge of American pop and political culture would enjoy. I don't give it a 5 because the tickets are pretty high considering that in some sections thy guarantee you a seat but can't guarantee you will sit with your party unless you... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
