On June 7, 1974, Steve Silver produced a small show in the back room of the Savoy Tivoli Restaurant in San Francisco. The show was to run for six weeks. That was over 37 years ago... Today, Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon has the distinguished title of "World's Longest Running Musical Revue." The show - a musical spoof known internationally for its extravagant costumes, outrageous hats, show-stopping numbers and hilarious puns of pop culture and political character - has been seen by over 5.5 Million people, including HRC Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles and Camilla the Duchess of Cornwall as well as some of Hollywood's biggest stars."Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon," hailed as "a constant cascade of showstoppers" by the "San Francisco Chronicle", follows Snow White as she takes a fast-paced journey around the world in search of her "Prince Charming." Along the way she encounters a star-studded, ever-changing line-up of hilarious pop-culture characters, including President Barack & Michelle Obama, Gangnam Style, Prince William, Kate Middleton and the Queen of England, Honey Boo Boo, Governor Jerry Brown, Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj, Hilary & Bill Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Nancy Pelosi, Michael Jackson, Adele, General David Patraeus, "50 Shades of Grey," and The San Francisco Giants.

Yes, OK, haters, there are some bits that have a little moss them, but you can't indict the talent on or back stage. We laughed until we cried. The cast is very talented, the costumes and ... the ... WIGS are just crazy good. The writing is crisp, and the tiny ban knocks it out of the ballpark. Don't miss... More

I got tickets for BBB for my birthday and had no idea what to expect. I arrived with my husband (25) and my mother (51) to give you a little bit of an idea what age range we're talking- all of us had an incredible time! The show was lively, funny and easily relatable. For example, my Canadian mother caught... More

I work for a major tour company in San Francisco and I've been working in tourism for 8 years and I've got to say that this was the most entertaining, funny and original thing I've ever seen in San Francisco. Thank you so much for making my girlfriend's birthday amazing

My husband and I were visiting SF and saw this show in a Wednesday evening. It was funny and entertaining. We paid the higher price for our tickets but after being there realized any of the seats would have been good. I might have chosen the side balcony even though we were on the street level. The seats are not... More

This is not a theater experience, just good old fashioned fun... Leave the attitude at the door and come for the fun.

What a funny show!! It's full of political and celebrity satire (which I love). The costumes are fantastic, performances are great. The fun starts when the band comes out and it doesn't stop until the final curtain. Now that I've seen it I wonder why I waited so long!!! We went to a Sunday matinee which is suited for under... Just saw show last night. Too many accolades to write in just a short space. Cast was marvelous. The theatre had charm. The price was reasonable. Don't pass this up. It is as good as any Broadway production I have seen. If you loved Avenue Q on Broadway, you will love this show.

You will see political satire, celebrity satire and Awseome costumes. It is walkable from the Fishermans Wharf area. Have dinner in Little Italy and make sure to get in line early for the best seats! Get a glass of Anchor Steam and get ready for the show! This is a must see in San Fransisco! we saw the Friday night... More

This show is a MUST see. It is a brilliant satire of everything SF and much more. The costumes and performances were fantastic and we couldn't stop laughing. How performers managed to keep the head dresses on their heads makes it quite a balancing act. I guarantee you will love this one.

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
