On June 7, 1974, Steve Silver produced a small show in the back room of the Savoy Tivoli Restaurant in San Francisco. The show was to run for six weeks. That was over 37 years ago... Today, Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon has the distinguished title of "World's Longest Running Musical Revue." The show - a musical spoof known internationally for its extravagant costumes, outrageous hats, show-stopping numbers and hilarious puns of pop culture and political character - has been seen by over 5.5 Million people, including HRC Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles and Camilla the Duchess of Cornwall as well as some of Hollywood's biggest stars."Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon," hailed as "a constant cascade of showstoppers" by the "San Francisco Chronicle", follows Snow White as she takes a fast-paced journey around the world in search of her "Prince Charming." Along the way she encounters a star-studded, ever-changing line-up of hilarious pop-culture characters, including President Barack & Michelle Obama, Gangnam Style, Prince William, Kate Middleton and the Queen of England, Honey Boo Boo, Governor Jerry Brown, Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj, Hilary & Bill Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Nancy Pelosi, Michael Jackson, Adele, General David Patraeus, "50 Shades of Grey," and The San Francisco Giants.

I was shocked at how great this was. I wasn't sure I would like it because I have never been to a "Cabaret". Everyone in the show had great performances. The singing was amazing. The size of the theater is perfect to just sit back and enjoy the show. Tickets - In my opinion, there isn't a bad seat in... More

This show has been running in San Francisco since the 1970's. I had the opportunity to sit in the magnum seats, loved it, did not have to line up, had our own pre-assigned seats and the view was amazing.

You can' go to this show too often. I've probably been a dozen times in 25 years. It's a great place to take visitors for a real San Francisco experience. The show changes often enough to keep it fresh and the satire current. Very talented performers and musicians. Go early for a good seat as seating even within purchased sections... More

THE best cabaret style show in San Francisco. A must see for all visitors but also a favorite of the locals. Legendary for their costumes, timely satire on current events and so very San Francisco.

This is not for everyone, but it probably should be. Just hilarious and a lot of fun, especially in a big group. I would recommend this show to anyone who wants a big smile.

My wife and I try to see this show every five years or so ... to enjoy the continuingly witty review of people and places in their mix of skits and songs. And it's the perfect place to bring out of town visitors to give them as sense of the fun of San Francisco, as we did this month with... More

Bought the tickets online weeks before for the 5pm Sunday show and sat in the balcony area. Great view from there. Alcohol not served at the Sunday shows but who needed artificial stimulants for this funny musical escapade - very contemporary and a great laugh. Only goes for a hour or so but, if you have the time, definitely worth... More

This show has been running 45 years and will probably run another 45 easily. The show is constantly modified and updated so it is never the same as the last time you were there. The cast is incredible. I would recommend sitting in the balcony and you squeezed in quite a lot downstairs. Don't miss it!

My friends and I enjoyed this show so much. The singers were amazing, the story was great and we loved how it all entwined so well. 10 out of 10, great night out!

This is the most creative and entertaining play we have attended. With their focus on current events, great humor, the hilarious head dresses and combined with great singing it is a must see when you are in San Franciso. We have visited SF many times and this play would be my number 1 recommendation after you have visited The Wharf,... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
