On June 7, 1974, Steve Silver produced a small show in the back room of the Savoy Tivoli Restaurant in San Francisco. The show was to run for six weeks. That was over 37 years ago... Today, Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon has the distinguished title of "World's Longest Running Musical Revue." The show - a musical spoof known internationally for its extravagant costumes, outrageous hats, show-stopping numbers and hilarious puns of pop culture and political character - has been seen by over 5.5 Million people, including HRC Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles and Camilla the Duchess of Cornwall as well as some of Hollywood's biggest stars."Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon," hailed as "a constant cascade of showstoppers" by the "San Francisco Chronicle", follows Snow White as she takes a fast-paced journey around the world in search of her "Prince Charming." Along the way she encounters a star-studded, ever-changing line-up of hilarious pop-culture characters, including President Barack & Michelle Obama, Gangnam Style, Prince William, Kate Middleton and the Queen of England, Honey Boo Boo, Governor Jerry Brown, Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj, Hilary & Bill Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Nancy Pelosi, Michael Jackson, Adele, General David Patraeus, "50 Shades of Grey," and The San Francisco Giants.

Haven't laughed so much in a long time. Really well done, combining comedy, music, and outrageous costumes and hats. Some political satire, but topics also cover entertainment and just about everything but the kitchen sink all tied together loosely into a story.

We loved the show. All of the entertainers are very talented. The scripts are hilarious. The costumes are fabulous. It's a great way to spend the evening laughing. We will definitely return to see another show!

First review after 30 years of watching plays. This is not a play or preformance. This is a bad karaoke farce. This is an event strictly designed to remove your dollars from your pocket. Poorly written, terrible coreography, a sad high school preformance at best. Yuk

I had no idea what to expect from this, it was recommended by a friend. It is very close to the mark but extremely funny. Make sure you gen up on American politics before you go otherwise you won't know who all the references are about! Get there early as you can't reserve seats although the theatre is small. Drinks... I grew up near New York City and am spoiled to have seen so many great Broadway Plays. This on holds it's own and I would even go see it again. The content is so fun - every adult will laugh. Costumes are great. I bought an expensive ticket for the best seat. This theater is so small that there... More

I was amazed at the vocal talent of the performers, I loved the head pieces. I appreciated the commitment of the performers. It was a a non-stop good time. I would see it again in a heart beat. I highly recommend it. The prices for the limited snacks was fair, I wish that they had a full bar as beer... More

This is terrific, topical entertainment that is a feast for the eyes, ears and heart. The troupe, which includes seasoned veterans (twenty years or more) and newbies, is a professional, timely display of dance, music and beauty. The performers, including the accompanying musicians, set a tone early of high energy, fun and irreverence. The story line changes from time to... More

I went with my granddaughter who is 12 and her family to see it again and it is just as wonderful as my first time. They were brand new to the scene when I first saw them back in the 70,s. A new cast replacing the last new cast etc but their timing and talent is great if not better.... More

A friend invited me to join her to see this show while I was in San Francisco and I was really impressed with it. It was great fun, very colourful and had great music. There was excellent humour and costumes and the whole performance was fantastic. It is famous for huge hats and hair and I was surprised that anyone... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
