On June 7, 1974, Steve Silver produced a small show in the back room of the Savoy Tivoli Restaurant in San Francisco. The show was to run for six weeks. That was over 37 years ago... Today, Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon has the distinguished title of "World's Longest Running Musical Revue." The show - a musical spoof known internationally for its extravagant costumes, outrageous hats, show-stopping numbers and hilarious puns of pop culture and political character - has been seen by over 5.5 Million people, including HRC Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles and Camilla the Duchess of Cornwall as well as some of Hollywood's biggest stars."Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon," hailed as "a constant cascade of showstoppers" by the "San Francisco Chronicle", follows Snow White as she takes a fast-paced journey around the world in search of her "Prince Charming." Along the way she encounters a star-studded, ever-changing line-up of hilarious pop-culture characters, including President Barack & Michelle Obama, Gangnam Style, Prince William, Kate Middleton and the Queen of England, Honey Boo Boo, Governor Jerry Brown, Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj, Hilary & Bill Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Nancy Pelosi, Michael Jackson, Adele, General David Patraeus, "50 Shades of Grey," and The San Francisco Giants.

So this show 8 years ago, and it's amazing how up to date it is with current character's. The time viewing the program was very entertaining. Suggest getting tickets early, as the seats are not assigned; they are first come first served in each section. Amazingly this show began in 1974, and over 40 years is still playing to sold... More

This was my second time and it gets better each time! It is funny with great singing talent! Even though the venue is small I was able to see from where I was sitting. Chinatown is close by to enjoy dinner and then attend BBB for an evening of great entertainment. I love their costumes and the jokes. Parking is... More

Been coming to this show for over 20 years, and it is always great! Perfectly San Francisco! The satire is always kept current and always irreverent fun!

This show had it all! The actors and actresses are talented at their craft. It was a funny show full of jokes, current event humor, political satire, insane costumes and some very amazing voices. Mix in a little dancing and a bit of just quirky enough and you have Beach Babylon's recipe for an amazing night. A few hints. It... More

I have to say, I was a bit skeptical when this was recommended to me. I'm not into politics and satire is sometimes lost on me. I asked every local I came into contact with, servers, cab drivers, Uber drivers, hotel staff. Not one single person told me anything other than "you need to see that show". This show is... More

We were recommended this show by a cousin in Australia who had seen it previously. It was amazing! Great vocals; witty and topical songs; hilarious hats and we had fabulous seats..front row upstairs. It was far better than we could have anticipated..highly recommend this show!!

This show is just amazing. I'm from Las Vegas and think this show excels. The lines are so funny but the exaggerated HAIR headdresses were just wild. The dialogue was so sharp and funny as they made fun of everyone who is in the news. The costumes were amazing as were the talented actors. What a hoot it was-great fun-outstanding... More

This was a fantastic experience, all very talented singers and musicians, costumes amazing and hats you would not beleive ! The venue was friendly, small and intimate and a really great experience. The show itself was one of the best musicals i have seen and we came away with such a good, carefree feeling - no wonder it has lasted... More

We went on a Thursday night and the place was packed. We purchased the middle priced tickets & its first come first served. Our view was great. The show is over 21 because they serve alcohol during show. The Sunday show is for under 21. We didn't order any drinks or chocolate because we came from dinner & they were... More

We took my brother and his girlfriend to see Beach Blanket Babylon while they were visiting from Canada. I think it’s been about 10 years since I first saw the show. I remembered really enjoying it so I thought it would be a great way to give our guests a taste of a San Francisco tradition. My husband and I... More

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
