This is just a down right fun place to visit.

Perhaps it depends on what is being exhibited. On my visit there was a fun display of the artwork used for a few funny kids books about Darth Vader and his kids. There was also... read more

My husband's one request for his birthday was to visit this museum during our San Francisco trip. It turned out to be a great visit. I really enjoyed the historical perspective as well as the Darth Vader and friends exhibit. Plus - some cool props from the Avengers movies. Sadly - they closed in September while they find a new... A small museum showcasing a few artists. Jeff Brown's Darth Vader and Friends exhibit was very cute. Savage Dragon by Erik Larson was also a nice spread with great splash pages. It is a great way to get up close to some fantastic comic pieces. There are some historical items in there as well. They are putting things in storage... More

The museum was quite interesting but very small - not sure it was worth $8 each but was a good experience and was something to do whilst visiting San Francisco. As an art teacher - I found it quite useful to see how artists develop their ideas from paper to digital animation as this is something that may help me... More

Perhaps it depends on what is being exhibited. On my visit there was a fun display of the artwork used for a few funny kids books about Darth Vader and his kids. There was also a good overview of the history of the cartoon. Both kids and adults will enjoy a visit.

This is my only negative review of many reviews from a SF visit. This museum is small. We wanted to see one of the two special exhibits. Even with the special exhibit and regular exhibits, we didn't spend an entire hour here. There are examples of many cartoons, but only one example and then with no additional detail about it... It is located downtown San Francisco. Amazing collection and fun! It's medium sized and they have an AVENGERS collection at the back... super awesome surprise! Their store is superb. You can drop $50 easy... great selections!

I took my team to visit the museum as a fun little distraction from work as we work next door. I wouldn't describe any of us as cartoon enthusiasts, but we all enjoyed our visit. It was interesting to see how cartoons evolved across the decades, and it opened up ours eyes to the artistry involved in this genre. It... More

If you're in to comics or cartoons stop by. It's a small collection but admission is cheap. You can view the collection fairly quickly if you want or take your time.

I love the cartoon drawings and videos there. Their exhibition covers a large number of different cartoons and it's very enjoyable to look through these.

a good history lesson thru cartoons, from early sunday paper funnies thru comic books and recent editorial political satire, a fun place in the mission district one block off market street; easy to find; also a nice gift shop and bookstore

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
