Not far from The Mosser Hotel we discovered a respite from the hustle and bustle of downtown within the Yerba Buena Gardens. A quieter haven for walking, sitting, sharing lunch, snapping photos, relaxing and taking in beauty both nature and manmade.

If you're in San Francisco for a conference at the Moscone, take a break and grab some sun on the upper terrace, or on the lower level near the waterfall.

With a few minutes to stroll around, picked this "gardens" shown on local map with no more info than that, expecting something botanical. Was surprised to find a largely artificial-surfaced, sun-bleached area, more or less devoid of plant life. Looks like it used to be a more natural space that perhaps, after years of the City trying to maintain grass... More

My boyfriend took me to the Yerba Buena Gardens and I instantly fell in love with it. It is simple but memorable. Situated right beside the Metreon and surrounded by a scattering of buildings, the park pops up as a beautiful haven from the bustle of the city and a wonderful surprise for those who unknowingly walk into the area.... This was a nice surprise in a city that was already full of surprises. With high rising buildings all around it this multi-tiered park was a nice break for all of the walking that I had done so far. Whilst the lower part of the park has your usual trees and grass that you can sit on and relax under,... More

YBG was exactly what I was looking for! Sunshine, beautiful soft grass to relax on, waterfalls, plenty of space to claim yours for the afternoon. In addition, there is an entire section of the YBG dedicated to children!! My 2yo little girl absolutely needed this space to be creative, explore, and just have time for big play!!!

The gardens atop the Moscone Center remain one of SF's richest urban parks -- a block from bustling Market Street and a few more from Union Square. Great vistas - views of the old AT&T building, the skyline, the MOMA. A great place to sit on the grass and contemplate the beauty of the city 360 degrees around you.

Yerba Buena gardens was near our hotel and so we visited it often as we walked to Union Square. Gardens, fountains and even a play area for my youngster to have a run a about. Its a nice place to relax if San Francisco gets too hectic.

This part of San Francisco is interesting because Yerba Buena Gardens is about a block off of Market, and sandwiched between the Museum of Modern Art (closed until 2016 for rennovations) and the Metreon. Lovely fountains, nice grassy area, and on a sunny day really lovely. So lots to do, lots of food options, yes, there can be peculiar people... More

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
