Since 1893, a beautiful place to row, paddle or glide electrically within Golden Gate Park! Open 10-5 Monday through Thursday, and 10-6 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There is a cafe and a (fairly small) picnic area. Admission is free but there are boat rental fees: $20 per hour for rowboats, $25 per hour per 2-person paddle boats, and $35... More

My friend and I were taking a tour of San Francisco and we decided to have our tour guide show us Golden Gate Park and to stop at Stow Lake. Stow lake is so cool because it is just huge and it has a island in the middle of the lake. There are beautiful stone bridges, birds, Chinese architecture, and... More

I've come to Stow Lake several times over the years for various reasons: romantic boat ride when it's not too crowded, picnic with friends near the water, quiet walk around the lake and the island in the middle, etc. If you're in GG park on a nice day and want to just chill for an hour or so, I recommend... Many people live in the bay area and are unaware of this hidden gem. Lake Stow is a small lake in the heart of Golden Gate and within 10 min walking from California Academy of Science. I love taking the hike to the top of the Hill in the middle of the lake and walk back towards the boat rental... More

I came across GG Park’s lake when visiting SF Botanical Garden. There’s an island and on the far shore of the lake, I saw food-truck vendors. Given the number of small boats, I imagine there are rentals. There are some negative reviews about food/boat vendors and charge to access the lake, but there’s no charge to view this peaceful pond.... More

Took my 10 & 8 year old here and rented a rowboat. Fun and scenic trip, and easy to row around. Take some bread for the ducks, or buy a snack at the boat house.

Spend an hour and rent a boat at Stow Lake. Its a fun experience, but the ducks and turtles are worth the price alone to get up and close. Bring some bread and feed along the way.

With buffalo & bison, windmills, lakes, concerts venues, ducklings, museums, play structures and fields, Golden Gate Park has pretty much everything and anything one could ever want in a park. But Stow Lake is a gem inside of a gem. I say - “Go to Stow Lake!” and when people say “Why?” I try to explain the cute little ducklings... More

Stow Lake is a lovely lake in Golden Gate Park. I spent part of my afternoon walking its perimeter and on the center Strawberry Hill. They also have a refreshment stand and pedal boat rentals available. Worth a visit, if you're in the area.

Stow Lake Boathouse offers row boats for $20/hour and pedal boats for $25/hour. I'm not sure if the prices are worth it. Seems to me a fair value should actually be half or two-thirds of the price. Stow Lake itself is a very small lake... more like a big pond. You can probably make 2 laps around the lake with... More
