After our short walk down Lombard, the crooked street, we found The Cannery by accident on our way to the Embarcadero. From the bottom of the crooked street, we walked from Leavenworth Street, towards The Cannery about 1/2 mile away. This appears to be a retail shopping district with some eateries. When we passed this site, it was “dead quiet”... More

Lots of shops to wander through in a wharf type setting - restaurants as well but it is a prime tourist trap so prices are high.

Years ago, the Cannery housed fun and interesting shops featuring local artists and their crafts. Today it is a mostly vacant building with some office tenants. We saw a few restaurants and a bike rental shop on the ground floor.

Jack's Bar at The Cannery was a little hidden gem. They have over 80 beers on draught. We didn't eat here, but there seemed to be an extensive and popular menu.

The description says, "This Del Monte Fruit Company factory was converted into a shopping mall in the 1960s and continues to attract locals and tourists alike." You won't find very many locals here. Not too many visitors, either.

We visited the Wharf area recently and decided to stop by The Cannery again to see if things had improved since our visit last year. The good news is that the large number of vacant shops and empty space found here last year is now being occupied by the Academy of Art University. This is a good thing as it... More

There's not much going on here--it may only be interesting if you know the history of the place. There is a Las Margaritas that looked fun and has a great patio area, there's also an bar inside the courtyard that looked good. Looks like a great place to go at night.

Little seems to have changed since fellow TA Poster - DJ_guy's post from December 2010. The Cannery building itself looks very nice and seems primed to be a great little shopping centre and restaurant area. However, there are a lot of vacancies beyond the street level shops on Jefferson and as a visitor, we found the place strangely quiet and... More

I'd been to the Cannery decades ago, and it was a bustling marketplace. Last weekend I returned. We visited the Wharf Garage on the first level. Interesting store. There was also a bicycle rental place on the same level that was closed, temporarily. We took the elevator to the second level and found...nothing. Nothing but vacancies. There must be more... More
