Ghirardelli Square seems to be having an identity crisis, trying to move away from the typical Wharf tourist scene to become a high-end shopping center mainly for the locals. There is no tour and no factory and hasn't been since 1965! The information booth there shook their heads at us and wondered why they get thousands of people each year looking for the factory. We were visiting from PA and have been here numerous times, but the place looked pretty sad recently because of all the changes, closed areas, closed stores and restaurants. If you love chocolate (and I do) then this is the place for you, especially as you are given samples when you enter. You can watch the chocolate being made and even join in. The Dark Chocolate Caramel Squares are the best thing in the world! more
