The Civic Center is comprised of San Francisco's City Hall, Davies Symphony Hall, the War Memorial Opera House and the War Memorial Veteran's Building. All but the Davies Symphony Hall are built in the Beaux Artes style beautifully. Each building is worth visiting. We have attended many concerts in each one of them. The Herbst Theatre in the War Memorial... More

If you are visiting San Francisco stop by the Civic Center. If the outside is impressive, the inside is breathtaking. The main floor has the big stairs under the dome and in the third floor you have the balconies where you'll have a great view of the windows and the first floor.

Many of the reviewer pix posted on TripAdvisor are not of the Civic Center that somewhat resembles the White House; they’re of City Hall on Van Ness that looks like a black-domed US Capitol Building. The Civic Center does not have a domed roof and is behind City Hall, and is adjacent to Asian Art Museum. As a civic center,... More

I always passed through Civic Center on my way to home from BART metro during sunset time, and the view is always adorable. Try to walk toward Van-Ness Avenue since there are a lot of fancy cafes to hangout

San Francisco civic precinct would be at home in ant old world city. Great buildings that make up the government and cultural heart of the city. Well worth visiting. There were great farmers markets nearby also on the Sunday morning that we visited. Yes there were some homeless and yes I saw one pee in the street. But this is... More

San Francisco’s Civic Center is located in the heart of the city, and contains many of San Francisco’s largest government and cultural organizations. Many of the buildings are built in the classical architecture style, giving the plaza a regal look and feel. Civic Center Plaza contains a vast amount of the city’s history, designating it a National Historic Landmark. We... More

This is a great spot to simply sit down, enjoy the sun and free wifi, contrary to what I heard I did not find multitudes of homeless people harassing me or wandering about but frankly, what city does not have such people? At any rate, this is a nice spot with plenty of surrounding shops and amenities and offers a... More

Beautiful area but filled with bums. Saw a disputes between what looked like gangsters judging by the colored coordinated clothing. Saw even more bums on the way back up.

Neighborhood Profile
Civic Center
Civic Center is the seat of power for all things government and performance-related in the city. Although its streets are best walked during daytime, numerous cultural gems are within close proximity to one another. The symphony, opera, ballet, and jazz center offer year round entertainment within the shadow of the city’s Beaux-Arts crown jewel: the gold tipped dome of City Hall.
