This is a great spot to simply sit down, enjoy the sun and free wifi, contrary to what I heard I did not find multitudes of homeless people harassing me or wandering about but frankly, what city does not have such people? At any rate, this is a nice spot with plenty of surrounding shops and amenities and offers a... More

Beautiful area but filled with bums. Saw a disputes between what looked like gangsters judging by the colored coordinated clothing. Saw even more bums on the way back up.

Off Market Street,I think Near Hyde or Larkin. There are huge art pieces in the street. When I was there, they had a side street closed down, for a movie-production. The Gold Domed City Hall is very attractive. Word Of Caution: This area is a flank of 'the tenderloin' which rivals LA's 'skid row'. and in the plaza there are... More

This building is amazing. One of the best in the entire city. It has a cool history after the earthquake. Stop by and find out.

Didn't go to the civic Center because as soon as we got off the Bart, a junkie shot up at a bus stop in the middle of the day, while others pissed in alleys and laughed. The whole area stank of weed. I don't usually mind homeless, but this was horrific.

We enjoy going to the Civic Center area of San Francisco. There is a lot to see here. Some of our personal highlights are: 1) City Hall -In my opinion this is one of the most beautiful city halls in California and is the site of San Francisco city government. It is nice to see the exterior day or night.... More

A fabulous building, which must have looked even better back in the day before it was surrounded by so much. Well worth a visit.

We're so lucky we're on this group tours and to visit the Civic Center is in the itinerary. It's very very impressive inside...elaborately adorned. The spectacular main hall staircase is just magnificent. This is truly a national landmark, very beautiful. You need a really good HD camera to capture this great 19th century architecture. That's maybe the reason why ,travel... More

Normally going to a city hall would not be part of the vacation itinerary but the neoclassical city hall building at the San Francisco Civic Center is beautiful outside and inside. The rotunda is impressively majestic as though you were in major country's capitol building. Well worth a visit although you'll have to make your away around a large contingent... More

Neighborhood Profile
Civic Center
Civic Center is the seat of power for all things government and performance-related in the city. Although its streets are best walked during daytime, numerous cultural gems are within close proximity to one another. The symphony, opera, ballet, and jazz center offer year round entertainment within the shadow of the city’s Beaux-Arts crown jewel: the gold tipped dome of City Hall.
