Whether the weather is clear or foggy it is always worth the trip over the Golden Gate Bridge and up and over the to Headlands. If you drive up to the end, park and go through the battery's you have a unique view of the ocean. Even if you do not stop and just turn around your view as you... More

My wife and I went to the Marin Headlands as basically the last thing we did before heading to the SFO airport for our red eye flight out. We got there around 8pm, and it was great at night. I'm sure the views during the day are amazing too, but for a few minutes we had one of the lookout... More

The view of the city and particularly the Golden Gate bridge are spectacular from this park. The hiking is extraordinary.

You can walk or bike over the Golden Gate bridge, then cross under and go up into the Headlands. First stop on the left is the old battlements from WWII. Continue up long, steep road and enter some of the scary dark tunnels for the lush landscape on the other side. With a car, you can continue up, over, and... More

This is my go-to place on the west coast. It's a shame that so many tourists just visit the bridge, or the parks at each side, without heading up Conzelman road to Hawk Hill. At the right times of day, the views can be spectacular, looking both up the coast at the Marin headland, south along the coast and back... More

A lot of folks who visit Golden Gate will park on either side for pictures with the gate. Skip that and instead of parking by the gate on Marin County in the first parking lot, take the exit towards Marin Headlands, the golden gate recreational area. Parking is A PROBLEM. But a little wait, will bring a sightseer back to... More

If you are in San Francisco with a car, don't miss this gem. Short or long walks, cycling etc. Access to the lighthouse is weekends only (Sat to Mon), but still worth the visit on weekdays.

We were so glad we rented a car to visit Marin Headlands, Point Bonita Lighthouse, Sausalito for late lunch and then Muir woods. The drive was magnificent - the changing landscape, the beautiful views of the bridge, the history and unique plants. We enjoyed all of it! Tip 1: Start early on a Monday if possible (the lighthouse is only... More

Im from the Sacramento area and when it gets to 100 degrees a great place to escape is to the coast. Differ view of Golden Gate bridge with city in background. You can visit WWII bunkers and plenty of hiking trails. The marine mammal center is located here where they rehab hurt seals and sea lions, good place to take... More
