Sure it is a tourist trap, but you have to go here. Beautiful veiws of all the San Francisco sights, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Bay Bridge, Alcatraz Island, and San Francisco Bay itself. A lot of good photo oportunities. Souvenirs are expensive here, and can be purchased for less as you walk from here to Fishermans Wharf acouple blocks... More

The further you get away from the actual Pier39, the more it starts looking like a row of functional piers and small businesses. At Pier39, there are plenty of little shops, street performers, outdoor sidewalk vendors and sit down restaurants. I went there to see the Boudin Bakery flagship store, where the bakers make some of the best sourdough bread... More

i love the diversity down at the pier. you have streets lined with vendors of all sorts. you also have many food vendors to please your palate.its very busy and expensive. parking can be a pain especially on the weekends or holidays. we went during fleet week..... forget it there was over 1,000,000 people there.parking is also expensive. its nice... Not a bad place to sample all of the touristy SF attractions - see Sea Lions frolicking on the docks, get sourdough bread, and a crab meat cocktail all in one area. Rated average because it unfortunately even feels touristy. Glad I went, but next trip to SF, will likely skip.

We went to Pier39 after Alcatraz tour for lunch. Shops are placed very neatly, many restaurants and also interesting goods but I have a feeling most of the stuff is priced quite high and probably available for less elsewhere, but it is still worth walking through as it really is not just "shop on shop" architecture...Also most of the public... Probably the only disappointment in SF. Too busy and touristy, nothing particularly special about it. That is... except for sea lions! If you are there, make sure to walk all the way to the end of the pier and enjoy looking at these lovely creatures. The Chocolate Heaven shop is also a nice spot to stop at, they have quite... More

Very nice if you are looking for a place with lots of restaurants and souvenir shops. It's all very nicely kept clean. There is a merry-go-round, sea lions to look at and a great view of the Alcatraz Island and San Francisco. Very touristy though, so if you're looking for a genuine place this is not it. But it is... Went to Pier 39 three tines during our 4 day stay in SFO. Love the atmosphere, the variety of food ( try the clam chowder in a sour-dough bowl !) shops, aquarium and of course the Sea Lions basking in sun. T-shirts for souvenirs or gifts were a reasonable price and there is good variety. My daughter loved, loved, loved... More

Yeah its touristy but it's still a nice place to stop in. There's a Lefty shop which I had to see since I'm a lefty and the Pier Market was as good as advertised. There are a lot of chains and such but it's still got a San Francisco feel I'd say. We enjoyed the walk too. I wouldn't skip... More

I had already eaten lunch when I arrived but I really enjoyed walking through all the shops and seeing the Sea Lions were cool too! Clean guest bathrooms. I would go back again
