Narrow street, one way traffic, dozens of junky souvenir shops all with the same irresistible useless crap. Side streets restaurants OK. Go one block west (up) to Stockton Street for the real chinese experience.

At the end of the pier there are tons of sea lions that hang out, they are so fun to watch! This place is packed with shops, food and attractions.

I was on a business trip, and took a few minutes of free time for myself. It was a great decision to check out "pier 39". This was the best part of my trip. Pier 39 offers a lot of things to see and do. If you have to go to San Francisco, check out Pier 39.

There are lots of shops and restaurants. Find the visitor info centre as they gave us a coupon book that had some good deals for food and souveniers. It can be done in a few hours. The aquarium is also there and it was ok...not as good as sea world but very impressive glass tunnels.

Pier 39 is called a tourist trap by some but I certainly don't think so. I love all the wonderful places to shop and eat. There's a lot to see and a lot to take in. They have entertainment and attractions, too. You can see Alcatraz out in the distance and watch the ships go by. My favorite is the... More

We seemed to end up here several times during our stay - as everything is here. Our bike rental place, Eagle Cafe, Sea Lions and shops. After dinner at Eagle Cafe we went and spent some time watching the sea lions do their thing. Then we hit the shops as I needed to pick up a few things on our... More

I enjoyed pier 39 an amazing and diverse place with many restaurants and a variety of different stores to cater for everyone, I must admit though to visit the seals early, around 6 to 7am you can miss the crowds and it seems they are at their most playful, pier 39 is best to visit I feel during the week... Yes, there are various shops (clothing, jewelry, souvenirs) and restaurants that are geared toward tourists. Yes, locals can see the Bay, Alcatraz Island, and the Bridges every day. But there are aspects of the Pier that can be and are enjoyed by locals as well as tourists: the noisy "Pier 39 Sea Lions," the aquarium, the Marine Mammal Center, and... More
