Fun things to see and good food. We went on the week days and had a great time. Went on the vintage ships and found it to be very interesting . Not far from the cable cars and tour buses . Were some bums but they did not bother us. We would go back.

Sadly a tourist trap that run down and dirty. Glad we went early, walked around, tried the fried donuts, saw the seals, walked through the aquarium and ate lunch at Fog Harbor upstairs. We ended up walking from Pier 39 down to Fisherman's Wharf and then even further down to Ghirardelli Square. Don't allow a whole day for just Pier... More

I think Pier 39 is a good place to start your tour of San Francisco for several reasons. It can be free with many great photo opportunities. It is a central hub for many activities. You can rent bikes, take a cruise of the bay, shop, and see street performers...and so much more! There are lots of food options, but... More

A real shame this area has gone down hill. Streets are dirty. Drunks everywhere. So many homeless people about makes you feel guilty being on holiday when life is so miserable for some. On Sunday felt unsafe did not see any police. On Monday there were a few about. Toilets a problem there were two of the metal green cabins... More

Besides the Golden Gate Bridge, this could be another icon of the city of San Francisco but, nothing unusual, spectacular or even exciting about it. Just taking some photos and leaving some footsteps and bragging about being here and that's it. But, what is it...?

This is San Francisco's nod to crass tourist appeal. This was built from the water up after a suspicious fire destroyed the actual pier here. It was built to be a place to take money from tourists and has no other value or relevance to the city. As far as a place to see seals, there are seals in the... More

Can get busy during the day so if you can plan it for first activity for the day may be best but still great in middle of the day. We walked here around lunch time after getting back from Alcatraz (recommend Alcatraz first boat for the morning to miss as much crowd). The sea lions are a little smelly but... More

A great place to snag the vibrancy of Welcome to San Francisco. Yes, it's definitely touristy, but the buzz, bustle, and bay views are well worth at least a one hour stroll. Typical tourist trinket shops but people watching and best of all the sea lions lazing on the decks are just so darn cute.

PIER 39 certainly is a bustling place! We're glad you enjoyed the sea lions and stayed to people-watch for awhile as well. The bay views are wonderful, aren't they? We look forward to seeing you again when you return to San Francisco! More

I admit I can be "that" tourist. The one that is looking for souvieners for friends, kitchy restuarants and the atmosphere of fun by the oceanside. Well if that is you too Pier 39 is a must see stop. I got my favourite hot sauce, got some gormet popcorn, my husband did both a beer and wine tasting, we found... More

First we went here because it was near the hotel where we stayed. And we did not regret it. It started by having a late breakfast along the way to the pier. Then the beautiful surroundings appeared, it was cold but sunny breeze, and there were lots of tulips planted near the pier .. what a lovely view. We could... More
