Depending on the time of year, you can see the Sea Lions that camp on pontoons just outside the pier. It's free. It's fun. It's the highlight of a visit to this area. They're noisy! Make a call home from your cellphone and hold it up. Let your friends and family hear them. There's a small science museum about the... More

I think this was the best part on the fisherman's wharf! A nice boardwalk area by the water, where you can try lots of different things to eat (if you are foodie like me you will enjoying trying different things), take some rides, see some cool street performers and sea lions! Also be prepared to flow with a lot of... More

I reckon the reason to come to Pier 39 is the Sea Lions. These things are amazing! The rest is just a collection of pretty tacky eateries ans shops, but these animals are incredible. There is also something quite unique, if not a little discomforting, about such beautiful wildlife being such an attraction in the middle of such a touristy... More

This attraction is very crowded and filled with high priced vendors and places to eat. Nice spot right on the water and close to the other attractions

OK, go there if you have nothing better to do, but frankly this is just a tourist trap - over-priced souvenir shops and restaurants and tacky atmosphere. Fine if you like that sort of thing. We went there on a cool November day and really wanted a nice cup of coffee in a bar overlooking the water, or the bay,... More

Maybe for first timers, there's a lot to see, but just in my second visit years apart even, I feel I won't need to see this particular pier again! The seals were nice, but otherwise...Just so much of the same old, same old... tried a bread bowl of clam chowder, and it even felt/tasted 'tired.' And why clam chowder? I... More

This is one of my favourite spots from our visit to San Fran we visited twice once after we got back from the Alcatraz tour and the second after our bay cruise. There is some great little shops and plenty of restaurants to go eat and take a load off. I loved the spice and tea exchange on the upper... More

Anyone new to San Francisco has got to visit the bridge. If you are brave you can even walk across the whole span. I am not that brave. Bring a coat or sweater. Can be quite cold.

I have been several times to San Francisco and everytime I take time to visit Pier 39 with its great view on the bay and on Alcatraz Island. Lots of restaurants and shops make the place quite touristic but with a vibrant atmosphere. Sea lions are a must and keep entertaining visitors and children. It's worth entering the restaurants and... More

I went for the sea lions, something i've always wanted to see! They didn't disappoint. The rest of the pier is quite commercialised but there is something for everyone.
