Read several reviews touting this a tourist trap...is it touristy? yes! but its fun, offers great views and photo ops, lots of gift shops to get your souvenir shopping done (found the prices to be average), lots of restaurants, several buskers around to entertain you day and night...the Carousel is great for kids of all ages... and of course the... more

Why would you travel to San Francisco to have an Orlando experience? It is an endless assortment of over-priced-gouging chains trying to boost San Fran's rep as "too expensive". Because you don't know any better? It is the epitome of the main problem with San Fran: tourists that come thinking they will see the highlights and avoid the locals whom... more

I had read some bad reviews about Pier 39 but we had a nice time there. it was busy and packed with tourists but the Sea Lions were a must see and they had some interesting shops and good food on the pier. I would definitely plan an afternoon or eveing trip to Pier 39 if traveling to San Fransisco. more

Even though this was the "tourist" thing to do i had to go to pier 39. The boardwalk and all the shops were all really pretty. The best part were seeing the sea lions at the end of the boardwalk. We went during fleet week so as we walked down the pier we had jets flying above us. more

We had a wonderful time. It was great for our entire family. The kids loved all the sights, smell and food on the wharf. They especially loved the sea lions. more

We (wife and self) had spent the morning on Alcatraz and returned to San Francisco in time for lunch. The sea air had made us hungry, so we walked the short distance to Pier 39, built on two levels with plenty of dining choices. We opted for North Beach Pizza on Level 2 and were very pleasantly surprised to find... more

I know it's the cool thing to do in both San Francisco and in the travel writing world to dump on this place for being a tacky tourist trap, but people need to lighten up. Sometimes when you are on vacation, you enjoy spending an afternoon in a tacky tourist trap. Nobody wants culture or history every day of their... more

My family enjoyed walking to the pier. The sea lions were amazing- so many of them! We had lunch at Bubba Gumps which had very pretty views of the bay. The shops seemed expensive compared to others along Jefferson Street in Fisherman's Wharf. There are several things one can do or just sit on the bay and do nothing. more
