Pier 39 is simply a must if you are a tourist in San Francisco - There's a typical shop/restaurant/boardwalk extravaganza. It's pleasant enough but very touristy and really, By "typical", I mean I feel like you find those places everywhere where you can get every souvenir item you could want as well as scenic, but somewhat bland and overpriced restaurants.... Found the pier to be a little tacky and over crowded with people. Enjoyed the windy view over to Alcatraz and the sea lions though.

Don't miss these unique creatures as they bark, fight, and play together. You can hear them barking at each other all the way to the street. See if you can spot the differing mark of the males.

Pier 39 is overcrowded with people but there is a number of attractions. Certainly worth going one time.

We enjoyed walking along the pier and enjoying the sights as well as the various shops. Lots of eateries too, so lots of variety. For parking, we parked a few blocks away on the street in front of the starbucks at Taylor and Bay. Four hour max, but it is only $1/hour.

Good place to go shopping and see all the various people visiting. There are peddlers on the street selling their wares. This is easy to get to via the bus and trolley. We bought souvenirs to take home from here.

So many interesting shops. Things you do not see elsewhere i.e dog store, shell shop, sox shop, etc. etc. We just loved the crepes from a little shop in Piet 39. They were utterly delicious and we had to stop at least three times to sample some of them. Of course the seals were also a big attraction. Well worth... More
