Took the early boat tour, on a beautiful sunny SF Feb day. Small cafe and hot dog stand at the Pier for drinks and small snacks (bagels, coffeess etc), also available on board the ferry, however only allowed to consume these goods at Pier on Island due to it's National Park status. Ferry journey was smooth, we stood on the... More

We went out to the island late in the afternoon and we were able not only to have a great tour but experience the jail at nighttime. Spooky!

A must visit in San Fran! Purchase your tickets a week ahead! There's parking right by Pier 33! Bring a sweater and wear comfortable shoes! The audio tour is amazing! Can't eat or drink on the island make sure you eat, you can bring a bottle of water! Plan to spend about 2 and a half to 3 hours in... More

Offers amazing views of the city and is a fun ferry ride to the island. Would book tickets in advance. It is an interesting part of history and offers a free audio tour through the cell house. We were able to find street parking two blocks away.

Amazing amazing amazing!! A visit to San Francisco isn't complete without a visit to Alcatraz. The history behind the prison is fascinating and there is a strange feeling looking at the cells. The views of San Francisco from the island are breath taking.

Lived near San Fran for Approx 5 years and always enjoyed usually monthly trips to the area, especially when friends/family visited. The Harbor boat trip to Alcatraz was always enjoyable, as was the expression from first time guests. Park Rangers on site provide in depth reviews of its history and audio head phones are available which provide insight at various... More

My wife enjoyed wandering around Alcatraz and listening to the guides, who are very knowledgeable and interesting. Very interesting, a good choice when in San Francisco.

There is a lot of hype about this attraction, so one goes into it with expectations. It mostly lived up to them. It was smaller than I had envisioned, but still awe inspiring in its stark simplicity. The guides are friendly, and mostly you have the run of the island. The audio tour of the prison is fast paced and... More
