We visited back in 2010 as part of our Silver Wedding treat. We were advised by friends who had been before to book ahead as they hadn't and they were unable to get tickets when they were there. We booked on-line direct with the official Alcatraz Cruise Tours back in the UK and printed out our tickets ahead of going.... More

We were advised in our local pub to book in advance, glad we did. We visited in May, and all the next available tours were 5 days ahead no matter what day of the week. Alcatraz tours (from Pier33) are the only operator allowed to land on the island, others sail just around it if that's all you want. The... More

We spent a few hours on a Sunday day in Alcatraz. Ended with lots of fantastic photos, tired legs and very interesting history lesson. Highly recommended for anyone visiting SF.

I met a couple former prisoners who were there to meet and greet. One wrote a book about his time on Alcatraz and his own attempted, and abandoned escape. James Quillen was his name. It was a very interesting and educational visit. More to learn here than from any book ever written about this or any other prison.

This was the highlight of our trip. Make sure if you go to get the headphones, it's a self guided tour and the headphones tell everything about Alcatraz, it was unforgettable!

As an international visitor it is disappointing that this venue is booked out so far in advance. Not all visitors can make bookings months in advance.

We bought our tickets months prior to our trip. Many people were grumbling at the entrance to the Alcatraz ferry, when they saw the sign that said next available tour was 6 weeks in the future! That said, the tour was great. There is actually too much to see in one day. We just made it thru the prison and... More

Great experience, walking through cell that Al Capone resided in. Gives you a whole new connection to history. Trip over on the boat is nice as well.
