We booked the Alcatraz tour before leaving Australia as it is often booked out in busy times. Well worth it if you have the time as we spent most of the day there. Book the first ferry if possible as it was good to get there before the crowds. This is an awesome one of experience and a must for... More

Do the night tour, you get to see more. They only open the hospital area for night tours. The tour is also self paced and you can spend basically as much time as you want so you never feel rushed.

This tour was very interesting and well worth the visit. The audio guide makes the place come alive and is very informative. Only advice would be to hang back until a group have gone ahead before you commence your audio tour so there are less people at each point.

I visited Alcatraz a second time last year with my boyfriend (now hubby). It's a very amazing experience. Listening to the narrative your own pace and imagining what was at one time, the feeling cannot be described in words.

I will start this review with I never actually made it to Alcatraz. I had prebooked tickets for the night tour on a Monday night. We were due to arrive in town at around 3 so should have had plenty of time to get to the warf (we were staying at Fishermans Warf) for the 6:30pm last boat. Unfortunately our... More

Love this place. Love the audio tour. Love it. The surgery room in the hospital still have the strong smell... freaky but add a point in the incredible experience. Love it

We were glad that we had prebooked our tickets as the ticket booth were telling potential customers that the next available date to visit was three days ahead. We also felt very safe on the boat to and from the island (when compared to a boat trip we took last year to see the Statue of Liberty), as it was... More

the audio tour in the cellblock makes the place come to life, well worth it. Book 90 days in advance on the official website, save yourself a few $$ . Get there early, have a coffee relax, and enjoy the views..

Went visit Alcatraz while we were in San Francisco, this place was awesome! Not an expensive tour either. It's self guided so you can stay island until the last boat leaves. One of the best tours I've been on in a long time. You can do a tour with a headset that tells you stories about the cell house and... More

This attraction is well worth visiting. The short boat trip across to the island sets the scene for a very informative and fascinating visit. The audio tour is excellent and brings the reality of Alcatraz to life. If you intend to visit it's advisable to book in advance to avoid disappointment. You can book on line and collect tickets on... More
