We went on the Alcatraz trip in the evening which we would thoroughly recommend. It added more to the experience. Not normally a fan of headphone commentaries, this one is excellent. This was my 3rd trip to Alcatraz the last one was about 3 years ago. This time the parks service has taken over and the price has jumped from around $13.00 to $26.00 dollars. It was a much better experience when Blue and Gold fleet took you to the island. I think over doubling the price was a little ridiculous!! more

We took the Alcatraz night tour our first day in San Francisco. I recommend booking on-line before you leave home to get the day and time you want. The audio tour was fantastic (both informative and entertaining)! The tour is offered in so many languages and you can pause it whenever you want. We stopped to discuss things we saw... more

If you're visiting San Francisco, you must visit Alcatraz. You get a real insight into prison life due to the wondeful audio tour (comes with added sound effects!). It's an eerie place but entertaining at the same time. more

Alcatraz Cruises who run the boat service are punctual, efficient and extremely professional. Boat trip is a quick 12 minutes from the shore, plenty of space to move around. I think this is an amazing place with a lot of history but the tour is an audio tour and there is a lot of people trying to follow it and stand at the same place at the same time and if you are not up front you might not be able to see what they are talking about. We... more
