This is a really fun and interesting trip, even the youngsters had fun. If you have ever seen the movie you gotta go here!

Our family toured Alcatraz during our vacation to San Francisco. It was a great trip ... book a minimum of 2 hours; although, you can stay as long as you like. Boats come and go from the dock yard. We had the audio tour and it was excellent. The weather was overcast and dreary; but, this added to the adventure... More

The tickets can be kind of pricey and they sell out in advance so prepare ahead of time. We did the night tour and it was excellent! They have self-guided audio tours of the main cell house and additional guided tours by park rangers afterwards. Very glad we did this!

Wasn't overly sure about this trip but on a 4 day trip to San Francisco felt it had to be included, and I'm so glad it was. We booked online with Alcatraz Cruises (the official trip) around 2 months prior to departure. Just choose your departure time and date, pay up front and you get e-tickets to print off. At... More

One of the highlights of my 3-week trip in the States. If you are visiting in peak season you will need to book in advance as tickets do sell out. The island is a short boat ride away and it's best to allow time for the tour and for wandering around at your own pace as there is a lot... More

This is a great trip, well worth seeing. You get your own headset when arriving. Beware there is a long walk up to the top of the rock at the beggining, however assistance was offered for those less able. Commentary on the headset is good and guides you round. You can stop and start in your own time but can... More

We hadn't pre booked tickets for this and we should have, the first available tickets were not until 19th august. The only way to get them was to get there very early in the morning,my partner got there at 5.45 am with my son and was given two tokens to get the tickets but wasn't allowed anymore as I wasn't... Ferry to and from Alcatraz was nice. The prison is just like you'd think drab, small and a place I'm glad I never had to visit while it was open.

Even if you aren't a Giants fan, it is a good family outing. Food and beverages are great for a ball park and there are family activities (coke slide and miniature baseball diamond and great views of the bay and the city by walking around the park.

Our visit to SF was highlighted by the trip to Alcatraz. The self guided audio tour was the perfect length. It kept us moving. An added bonus was the the fantastic views of the city from the island. Book in advance, as this sells out fast.
