Experience a half-day or full day climb with Maine’s original and most respected climbing school. We specialize in designing unique, personalized climbing experiences for all ages and abilities on the scenic shores of Acadia and throughout Maine! Join us for a healthy and fun activity that is guaranteed to be a highlight of your vacation. All equipment is provided. Unlike other local seasonal climbing services, guiding is our profession! We guide year round on rock, snow, and ice. 100% of our staff are independently trained and certified above national guiding and medical standards set by the American Mountain Guides Association and the Professional Climbing Instructors Association. AMGCS has the distinction of being the only school in Maine to be dually accredited by both the AMGA and the PCIA. AMG has been under the same consistent ownership since opening in 1993. The owner, Jon Tierney, began guiding in 1983 in Acadia and is one of a handful of Americans to earn the International Federation of Mountain Guides Association (IFMGA) guide license. The IFMGA license is the PhD of guiding and requires full AMGA certification as a rock, alpine and ski mountaineering guide. We look forward to meeting you on the rocks!

We had reservations for a family climb while we were in Acadia. The forecast was for rain but since we had no other opportunities during our trip to reschedule, we headed out with our guide, Andrew. Despite the rainy conditions, we had a fantastic time. Andrew picked a great spot that was fun as an adult, but also appropriate for... More

My husband and I and our 7-yr-old daughter spent three days climbing with Mark Warner of Acadia Mountain Guides this July. Our experience was absolutely fantastic. Mark was completely professional and made us fee extremely safe. He was able to cater to three totally different climbing abilities and found excellent routes for us. He was an angel with my very... With three teenage girls, I wanted a challenge and a way to experience the rocky formations in a more personal way. We spent the morning at south bubble and the afternoon at Otter Cliffs. I am not in the best shape and struggled at the cliffs because I was tired, but the girls were still going strong. Our guide, Alex,... More

I have visited Acadia many times, and have done all kinds of guided activities in the park. Climbing with Acadia Mountain Guides was the most fun I have had on any of them. My 7 year old daughter and I spent two half days climbing with our guide, Dick, who was exceptional. He was very personable and patient, and never... More

My family and I climbed at Otter Cliffs with Dick as our guide. Dick did a great job of accommodating many different skill levels in our group. He was encouraging and was very efficient, allowing us to get the full experience from our half day climb. It was an amazing experience and is highly recommended to anyone who is considering... Don't hesitate, just book it. This climbing experience was the highlight of our amazing vacation at Acadia, and I would highly recommend it regardless of skill or comfort level. This type of activity was well outside my comfort zone, and our excellent guide (Seth) was patient with myself and the other newbies. This is an experience that I will never... More

Climbing Otter Cliffs was the highlight of our trip. Chris was the perfect guide, he catered our 1/2 day climb to our disparate skill levels. My wife, although athletic, had no climbing experience and was little skiddish at the idea. After meeting at the Main St. office, we were fitted in our gear and at the cliffs within 30 minutes.... I picked this company because of the excellent reviews on Trip Advisor and am happy to report that the reviews were on point! My family had a great time! Alex, our guide, did a great job picking the location according to the mixed skill levels and interests specific to my family. He was very patient and accommodating as our family... More

My husband and I stepped right outside our box and decided to try rock climbing while visiting Bar Harbor. What a great choice! I had scoured through reviews before we left and had decided that I was choosing Acadia Mountain Guides. I didn't book it right away because I was afraid I'd chicken out. On a whim, I happened to... Our experienced guide Mark made for a very exciting morning. That was my first time climbing with my boyfriend, and being afraid of heights I was a bit nervous, but Marks' knowledge and sense of humor made me comfortable to overcome my fear and climb. We had a lot of fun climbing the different cliffs Mark brought us to. We... More
