Like the other reviews indicate, this is a good short trip to take on a rainy day. You get to learn about the lobster life cycle and see them at different sizes. The staff was informative and open to all kinds of questions. The kids even got to touch some sea stars and cucumbers.

The Oceanarium is located on Route 3 (as you come onto the island) in Bar Harbor. It is the only lobster hatchery in the U. S. We watched an informative film, followed by a tutorial on how and why lobsters are raised, the early stages of development and survival rate in the wild or in the hatchery. We toured the... More

Had gone here about 10 years ago. It was great, so we took our friends this year. Their little girl really enjoyed it. It nice to have a fun learning experience for young kids to enjoy.

Very informative! Small place but had 3 great speakers about 45 minutes each. Learned a lot about Lobsters, ocean animals and lobster fishing.

This is a small self supporting facility with an entrance fee. The kids 8 & 10 learned about lobsters, horseshoe crab blood (!) and how to tell a spruce from a fir. Some of the talks were very well done, some lagged a bit. It was a good overall - the kids were able to share what they had learned.... More

We were enthralled by the oceanarium 40 years ago and recently. Everyone has a chance to see wildlife in the marsh, to see and learn about lobsters being raised and harvested, and to touch and learn about sea creatures. The people sharing their knowledge are a mix of locals, scientists, and lobstermen. This is a small but interesting place to... More

I visited the Oceanarium earlier this summer. I was quite taken by the lobster hatchery and the process of raising lobsters. I never knew that female lobsters could carry from 10,000 to 100,00 lobsters on their tail. They even should us a female lobster with eggs. It was amazing! I would recommend this place to anyone but especially with children... More

This is a cute little stop, good for an extra 1.5-2 hours on a vacation. A bit expensive, think it was $18 for adults for the basic entrance (can pay more to go for a walk). They assign you 3 places when you arrive, with times. For us first stop was an indoor lobster boat. The woman who did that... More

We had a rainy day to spend and stopped here. We passed an enjoyable afternoon learning more about lobsters than we could have imagined. We weren't that impressed with the touch tanks - being older adults that isn't as interesting to us. Some areas they could improve on Better crowd control - they would have people come into the demonstrations... More
