My wife and I visited in mid-October while on vacation. We toured the entire place, finishing with the lobster hatchery and then the nature tour, both of which we really enjoyed. The presentation and tour at the hatchery was very interesting and informative. What we learned on the nature tour made for more interesting and enjoyable hikes through Acadia.

We had 3 different people explain 3 different areas to us. One was a student... she was awesome. Smart, we could hear her well and, she was very good about keeping the obnoxious children in check. One would think the parents would huh? Another was an owner and she was great too. We made sure the kids had gone elsewhere... More

While the new location is larger, I miss the old location. This place was always fun as a kid.... My mom and I took my young son there during our October vacation. There were less sea creatures to hold in the tank and it's a lot of "lecturing about lobsters" which is boring for kids. We skipped the last exhibit,... More

This was an absolute treasure that we visited on a very rainy day in Bar Harbor! We are an empty nester couple, but we had a ball learning about Lobsters Life Cycle and Bar Harbor from the various educators! This is educational and intriguing for all ages! The folks that talked were so passionate about their work and made it... More

We learned a lot about lobster and got to see and touch some different creatures. We did the full shebang where you can do the touch pool, the lobster hatchery, and the marsh walk. It was a beautiful day outside and the staff are very kind and knowledgeable. We also got to meet the sheep of the property. Very sweet... More

It's not much of an oceanarium--it's almost entirely about lobsters. And we didn't learn all that much about them either. They have a lobster hatchery, but you don't get to really see any of the baby lobsters, just hear a talk. They do have a touch-tank with a few familiar sea creatures (starfish, sea urchin, mussels) but no octopus or... More

Too bad there were some parents who think it is OK for their 4 and 2 year old to run around, scram, yell and worst of all.. climb on the very platform our speaker was using. We could not hear him over the screaming. These kids were picking up buoys and banging them. Picking up iron tools they could barely... More

We went here with our two young children on a recent vacation to Bar Harbor. The older gentleman that starts the tour was very personable and entertaining. The woman that gave the talk in the touch tank room had kind of a condescending, school marm, personality. I know she meant well but I found her slightly grating and irritating. It... More

I wasn't sure what to expect when we visited here. As a warning, the tour takes an hour and a half, as it includes three 30 minute presentations. That's not including the marsh tour, as that would take over 2 hours total then. The hatchery was excellent and informative. If you have time, I would recommend a stop to learn... More

Four of us spent several interesting and fun hours at the Mount Desert Island Oceanarium. We learned a lot and really enjoyed the four speakers in different parts of the facility. Our favorite was Dave the lobsterman. Also recommend that you pay the extra money and do the marsh tour if it's not raining.
