With Bar Harbor and Acadia ever more congested with cars, the Island Explorer is a great alternative to driving. The stops are convenient, and the drivers very friendly and helpful. Most of the buses have bike racks. The service is free, and is environmentally friendly.

I loved the entire park, with it's great views. Thought the idea of free buses provided by L. L. Bean was great to curt down on the traffic and help the environment. The views from the top of Cadillac mountain are sensational

The bus ride was just so lovely. The views were amazing. We had a woman guide and she was very informative and pointed out many interesting things to see.

bring your camera and good walking shoes. You can make this a whole day trip. You can stop at the visitor's center first and get a map. You definitely want to go to Cadillac Mountain. the summit of Acadia National Park and walk around, pose for great pictures. You absolutely must go to the Jordan Pond House which has the... More

Taking the shuttle is much easier than trying to get around the busy Village Green area of downtown Bar Harbor. The routes run quite frequently and stop at many of the hotels. We did not take any other shuttles other than the Eden Street (to our hotel) and Village Green (to downtown) but they also go into Acadia and other... More

One of the best features of the USA is the number of State and National Parks available to explore. This is a great way to see this park.

Acadia is of daunting size with a new delight every minute. The busses are run by the park service and subsidized by LL Bean. Our drivers were very knowledgeable and chatty, letting us know what we were seeing at every turn. The busses are excellent for getting around the park. There are 7 or 8 routes - most leaving from... Seems like a great idea, would have been helpful and convenient but it wasn't running yet for the season when I was there in mid-June. A tip for the Acadia information booths - don't put out the printed schedule if the bus isn't running! I walked in and took the schedule off the counter and went out to wait for... More
