This is a great way to see the island. It takes you to all the spots one has to see. Not a good idea if on a time crunch.
the guide was knowledgeable and was able to tell us much of the hostory of the area since he is a native.
This was such a terrific system to get around anywhere you wanted to go... the bus schedule is very frequent at all stops and you can take your dog, bike, etc., to get on.. AND IT'S FREE!!!! You don't have to drive at all..............recommend highly to anyone...
We had a little bit of a hard time finding where to get on the bus, but did manage to find it at the Village Green, several blocks from the pier at a park on the right. This is a fantastic service provided to see many great locations on the island, especially Asticou Azalea Garden--just ask the drive to pull... More
The island explorer is a fantastic alternative to driving. It´s great that such a system exists, if only this system were in every national park. We parked the car when we got to Bar Harbor and never used it the entire five days on the island. It´s very practical if you have bikes because you don´t have to drive on... More
These free shuttles allow you to leave your car in a convenient spot wherever you desire and take shuttles all over the island and into the national park. For a day of hiking or biking, it is really convenient. Just make sure they are still running if you make a fall or spring visit.

Acadia was closed because of the government shutdown but our guide gave an entertaining tour of the island. Since she lived on the island for many years she shared stories of residents of the island along with interesting facts on the park and area.
While I am not much for tours. I found this tour to be very informative, interesting, educational, and entertaining. The tour guide was an older local man, so he knew a lot of things that a younger tour guide would not know.
