To be perfectly honest, I wanted to visit this place since I saw it on an episode of Magnum. So when we found it, I was stunned at how beautiful this place was. It's beautifully silent with jaw dropping views of the mountains surrounding the temple. There are pools of huge Koi, with black swans and birds who will eat... More

I've been to Arlington and that Boston cemetery, but you'll love this one too! Just ask at the gate and they'll tell you to keep going til you reach the top. Pay three dollars in the parking and walk across the bridge to a Japanese temple with beautiful gardens. There's a huge pond, some quaint bridges and koi fish and peacocks.... More

We have visited the Byodo-In-Temple several times. When you see it you are struck by not only the temple but the beauty of God's creation all around. It is a non-practicing Buddist Temple that invites people of all faiths to worship or pray if they wish. There is a large statue of Buddah inside the Temple. It provided a great... More

Byodo-in was such a surprising little place. It's tucked away in a memorial garden, and you can feel the peace of the place in the air. A lovely spot for contemplation, or just to relax. I'm glad we got to see this lovely little temple. I don't know that I would make the drive from Waikiki for the sole purpose... More

This is a beautiful and peaceful place to spend an hour. We rang the gong, paid our respects in the temple, and walked around enjoying the pond and the serenity. Definitely worth the drive.

Very pretty area and a nice change of pace from all the other activities we did on our vacation. We were in and out pretty quick but it was nice to walk thru. Military members get free fish food. The kids enjoyed feeding the fish and they saw a turtle.

It was a misty showering day when we visited, but that just added to the beauty and zen peacefulness of this place. Might also have to do with minimal people there, and that made it even better. It was very relaxing after the the hectic crowds and island driving aggravations!

I wanted to come to this temple to get away from Waikiki. Once I arrived, after passing the cemetery, I felt very calm. Waikiki took a toll on me. I spent about an hour there just reflecting and taking in the scene. I did ring the bell and also went in the temple. Reminder, you need to take your shoes... More
