Due to the wonderful coral reef system, the waters are calm. It's a great place to kayak or stand up paddle board (SUP) when the winds are low. For those windy days, it's fun to watch the kite boarders dash across the water.

The day we chose to go it was misting n strong winds so no snorkeling or canoeing as planned. We saw no turtles as other reviews said was there. I'm sure it's a perfect beach to go to, we just went the wrong day.....bummer :(

Lanikai area is a small community near Kailua, the beach is very eroded and small. Residents in the area area not very happy with all the traffic, and tourists that come to the area. Although the waters are calmer than Kailua bay, it has a lot of coral heads which you need to be careful of. There are no bathroom... More

Absolutely gorgeous beach. Fun early morning 2 mile loop for run or walk around Lanikai, then head to the beach with our without pets and enjoy! Parking is tough, so park on a side street and use one of the beach access trails.

I live in Kailua. Lanikai Beach is lovely but it's not worth fighting the traffic, circling for a parking place, and no facilities. There are no parking lots, only side streets in front of homes. If you are renting a vacation home there, great. But, for the rest of us, Kailua Beach is just as nice and has plenty of... More

The single access road into Lanikai is NOT meant for tourists to traverse! Traffic backs up daily! Residents and tourists alike can spend almost an hour trying to EXIT from Lanikai!! There are MORE beaches around the island, even MORE BEAUTIFUL than Lanikai ... and they're accessible to tourists!

This beach is so overcrowded. Parking is a huge problem as it is in a residential area. No rest room facilities, park benches or showers. There is also very little beach left as erosion has eaten up most of the beach. Kailua Beach, which is just 1/2 mile away has plenty of Parking, restrooms, showers, a better beach, picnic benches... I was there in May 2013. It was empty and the weather was nice, the water perfect temperature and the sand feels like baby powder. Found parking with no problem. Perfect for little kids to swim in.

I wonder if some of the reviewers have even been there.....no parking,no toilet, crowded, loose dogs. Nice spot, but the lack of control has made it a place to avoid.

This beach feels a little different as it wasn't as busy and had many middle, upper class locals walking their dogs on the beach. The locals weren't so friendly towards us here and they didn't seem to appreciate the traffic generated by the tourists coming for a look but don't let their attitude detract from the fun you can have...
