A little tricky to find, locals can help point the way. It is steep and it can be very slippery. View is worth your time-great for panorama shots
Parking was a challenge, but once we realized that you could just drive down the hill and park on the other side of the main road, it was easy. This is a very mild hike if you are an experienced hiker and a decent workout if you are not. The views are excellent and other hikers were friendly. I would... More
Graffiti. The pillboxes are absolutely covered in graffiti, which kind of ruins the scenic hike. The hike itself is very scenic, but the trail is poorly maintained (it would be a challenge for any old person, or anyone who is overweight) and there's no parking. Despite the lack of parking, the trail was extremely crowded the day I hiked this... More
Hiked the trail last week, parking is now limited. The start of the trail is very steep and difficult due to erosion! Not worth the risk of injury,
This was really fun, especially for those of us from flat areas of the country. We can't hike this at home, and certainly wouldn't have such a rewarding view at the top! It IS steep with loose dirt and rocks, so you need to watch your footing. I saw two very fit people slip and fall, fortunately without injury. Bring... More
Went with our two boys (tweens). Scenery is incredible and fun to tell a little bit about the history of the pillboxes to capture the imagination of the younger set and educate a bit about WWII. Takes only a little over an hour and you won't be disappointed!
These hills have multiple peaks to stop at along the way. Plenty of places to take awesome pictures of the ocean and mountain background. Park in the neighborhood below before you walk up but be careful not to block any drive ways. Remember that you are a visitor! There is a small sign at the top of the street so... More
We had heard only a little about this him. Just like Lanikai Beach this is another gem, pack a camera, a good pair of runners and be prepared for a 30 minute hike. Well worth the effort, will definitely do this one again.
This hike is fantastic. The first .25 miles is brutal, but the rest is just breathtaking and amazing. This view will literally floor you. We take the dogs and a lot of families take their children. It's a relatively easy hike, and it's short (about 1.25 miles out and 1.25 miles back...give or take depending on how far you go).... More
Living here for 30 years I've hiked some amazing places and Lanikai Pillboxes by far is at the top of the list for the type of hike it is. We live next to 2 hiking trails, so 3 hour hikes vs. 30 minutes matters. For a 30-minute hike straight up, bring your walking stick, a healthy heart, wear old sneakers... More
