Difficult but enjoyable hike. The journey to the falls was slippery at times and muddy. Use extreme caution and wear shoes made for hiking. Also, don't leave anything in your car as the area where you must park is in a local neighborhood. Three cars had their windows broken while we were hiking. We left our car unlocked with windows... The trail to the Falls is not what it used to be. The peaceful, friendly hike is now over run with the trailer being trashed. It's crowded, money, and people have just ruined it. There must be better places to hike in a while. There is no parking or facilities available on the trailhead and people just trash the neighborhood.... More

Well the reviews were definitely right about the muddiness!! You have to bring a good pair of shoes and have good balance to go up and down the slippery trail. As a beginner hiker it wasn't too bad of a trek. The scenery with the lush trees and blooming wild flowers was worth the 2 hour hike. We crossed 2... More

Arrive early to beat the crowds. We arrived early in the morning and parked in the residential area. It's not a difficult hike but it is a little rough on the feet. It's very MUDDY and there are A LOT of tree roots on the trail. Take proper shoes, DO NOT TAKE SANDALS, we saw many people wearing sandals having... More

The length of this trail and the moderate difficulty makes this a busy trail in Oahu. It took less than an hour to hike to the falls. I felt the hike was pretty easy and it was hardly muddy on the day I went. There were twenty or so fellow hikers at the end swimming and hanging out at the... More

We changed our mind about hiking location at the last minute because we wanted shade. This was a perfect location based on the tree canopy. Google Maps took us to the trailhead. No parking lot, so you find to get there early to find a place in the adjacent neighborhood. Before heading out, be prepared. Wear shoes that can get... More

If you want a decent hike, and are adventurous this is a great day trip. You absolutely need shoes, there are a lot of exposed roots and even more mud. It can be slippery in places. You will need to cross through the water in some areas. The trail is pretty clearly marked, my husband and I did this on... More

Awesome waterfall and swimming hole. Yes it can get crowded so avoid it on a weekend, if you go early on a weekday you'll have it almost to yourself. Beautiful jungle forest with some scenic vistas and then the falls itself is great, with few nice jumping rocks of varying height. Very cool spot!

For the first 30 to 45 minutes the trail to Maunawili Falls is simply muddy and enclosed with a heavy canopy of forest with little to see but the roots of trees and a well-worn path that is extremely slippery when wet, which is most of the year except for the summer months. The irony, however, is that when the... More
