My family visited Oahu in July and top on our list was a "rain forest hike with waterfall." This hike perfectly fit the bill! I wasn't interested in the over-popular Manoa Falls hike (too many people and no swimming). Maunawili Falls is breath-taking. The hike is MUDDY! Like, 4-6 inch deep mud on most of the trail. That could be... More

This hike is awesome! As long as you prepare yourself, you will have a blast. When you get to the trail, you will have to park in the residential neighborhood nearby. There are NO bathrooms anywhere around, so make sure to prepare yourself. Also, load up on bug spray, as there are lots of mosquitos. As you walk up the... More

Constant stream crossing, assault by bugs, cigar puffing hordes of morons who should be in Florida,no space at the falls. Wonder how many people know what Leptospirosis is? Or that any fresh water stream in Hawaii is a great place to get it, AND that for whatever reason, the younger and healthier people are most likely to contract it.

We left our car at a friend house & hiked Maunawili falls which was nice, it was very muddy in places which was to be expected as there had been a heavy down pour only two days before. However, it was very busy. I was advised that this was a nice, ""unknown" hike, but it seemed that everyone who knew... More

This is a beautiful and shady hike. We had a great time. Fast forward about 48 hours and hubby got very sick. It took us several more days to figure out that he had contracted leptospirosis (I'll spare you the details but it was not fun and it took about a week for him to recover.) The crazy thing is... Difficult but enjoyable hike. The journey to the falls was slippery at times and muddy. Use extreme caution and wear shoes made for hiking. Also, don't leave anything in your car as the area where you must park is in a local neighborhood. Three cars had their windows broken while we were hiking. We left our car unlocked with windows... The trail to the Falls is not what it used to be. The peaceful, friendly hike is now over run with the trailer being trashed. It's crowded, money, and people have just ruined it. There must be better places to hike in a while. There is no parking or facilities available on the trailhead and people just trash the neighborhood.... More

Well the reviews were definitely right about the muddiness!! You have to bring a good pair of shoes and have good balance to go up and down the slippery trail. As a beginner hiker it wasn't too bad of a trek. The scenery with the lush trees and blooming wild flowers was worth the 2 hour hike. We crossed 2... More

Arrive early to beat the crowds. We arrived early in the morning and parked in the residential area. It's not a difficult hike but it is a little rough on the feet. It's very MUDDY and there are A LOT of tree roots on the trail. Take proper shoes, DO NOT TAKE SANDALS, we saw many people wearing sandals having... More

The length of this trail and the moderate difficulty makes this a busy trail in Oahu. It took less than an hour to hike to the falls. I felt the hike was pretty easy and it was hardly muddy on the day I went. There were twenty or so fellow hikers at the end swimming and hanging out at the... More
