Such a wonderfully beautiful place. Take your time here but go see it for sure. Bring a light jacket if its windy.

We went to the viewpoint and paid $5 for parking. It was an easy walk to the viewpoint - maybe a little to easy but the views were very lush and it was nice to be in a cooler spot than the beach for a while. Well worth the short drive and visit. I would love to do more hiking... More

Green lush hills is what I came to Hawaii for. Hiked up the steps to get the view of the Needle and was not disappointed. Slipped through the barrier to hike further up - wear proper footwear and respect the terrain - beautiful views and a soul uplifting experience. A few cars got broken into just down the road from... What a different world from the south and western coast! A short drive and suddenly you are surrounded by lush green mountains. The Iao Needle is awesome, and all the trails are paved so they are accessible for many. This is a must see in Maui!!

I like Iao Valley for people who want to enjoy some of the best of Hawaii's natural beauty but can't handle a real hike. The pathways are paved and you needn't challenge yourself. There are further hikes that shoot off from the pavement which I haven't yet explored (because I'm always there with non-hikers!) but I hear they are worth... More

On November 5th, as part of the Best of Maui tour through NCL, we got to finally see the Iao Needle. Oh, wow...it was a bit overcast that day but it was still a sight to behold. The ascent to the highest viewing point was done by many on the tour and was very doable by all ages. The entire... More

There's a small parking lot at the base of the hike. It takes about 10 minutes up some stairs before you get a great view of the IO needle. There's also an area where you can go swimming if you're interested in taking a dip. It's a bit cooler here than other areas of the island, so keep that in... More

For a tourist based state, seems like Hawaii could keep the rest rooms operational .. 6 tour buses in parking area .. restrooms closed .. porta potties all in a row . To top it off, I Google mapped this place when I got home ... U got it .. the porta potties were in place "what ever year" the... More

Sometimes parking becomes a challenge here. This is one of those unfortunate places because it has such a "spiritual" sense about it, but it is not very safe at times. The only real problem is petty theft in the parking lot area, a problem I would have expected to improve when they started charging for parking. This is a must... More
