Snorkeling trips to Lanai and Whale watching in season

Constantly in search of the "Perfect Day" of snorkeling or whale watching, Captain Steve and his crew will stop at nothing to ensure unparalleled service and quality.

Waste no time in discovering the secrets of the reef and playing with dolphins, humpback whales, turtles and rays. There is no telling what we might encounter on any given day. No two trips are alike, and that's probably what keeps the captains and crew so friendly and accommodating. They are as excited about going to work as the guests are about going on a Maui rafting adventure!

History

Established in 1986.

Captain Steve's Rafting is a true example of the words "owner operated." Since he started his business in 1986, Steve has been insisting on personal service and satisfaction for every guest. As he explains, "I want to make sure everyone who comes with us absolutely loves the experience."

It's hard to find someone more sincerely dedicated to making visitors happy. That's why so many customers keep coming back to Captain Steve's year after year.

A note with regard to the captains and crew: It is widely known that Captain Steve has been the only operator of the family business for the past three decades, but with the advent of his second boat, he obviously cannot be two places at once. He is therefore committed to selecting only people who truly care about the craft of tourism and wish to make a positive impact on the experience of the guests. Thus "going the extra mile" is always sought after when considering a representative of his company.

Whale watching was a great experience. The crew was very knowledgeable. The boat was comfortable and great views from all seats. The crew made you feel relaxed and wanted you to have a wonderful experience. The boat / raft was small and held 31 passengers for our trip, just the right size. I would definitely recommend this over others.

We went on a 2:30 "late bird" ride. We saw many whales and enjoyed the crew who was very keen and informative. The ride was fast and bumpy - not for the elderly. I wish they had offered a life jacket for the kids (9 and 12). Everything was fine but I was anxious during the fast ride and the... More

Let me first start off by saying we tried other boats/companies first, one was a catamaran, and one was a very large Yacht (170ft). The smaller boats that Captain Steve uses are WAY better, plenty stable, and definitely the only way to go if you want to experience whales in Maui. He uses a rangefinder so he can get as... More

We have been on probably 20 or so whale watching excursions. Twice we have gone with capt Steve and both times rank in the top 5 as far seeing whales up close and personal. If you are more interested in food and bar, or a naturalist's narrative this is not the trip. But if you want to see whales this... More

My husband and I went on the early bird 7:30am whale watching trip one morning during our recent trip to Maui. Loved going out early as the water was calm and the light was lovely. Saw lots of whales and the staff was professional and knowledgeable. Will definitely go out with them again on our next trip!

My family was traveling home from New Zealand and had 3 days in Maui. We spent 2 of them with Captain Steve. One day whale watching and the next on a dolphin/ snorkel trip. He is the best! Nothing like being in a small boat and seeing those whales! Makes you laugh at those in the big boats, jammed up... More

My husband and I went on Captain Steve's early bird whale watching trip yesterday. I was very apprehensive about being on a small "raft"-like boat due to motion sickness issues I get sometimes- FYI for all you with sensitive tummies- NO PROBLEM!!!!! the ride is VERY smooth! The boat does rock a bit when stopped to view whales but I... More

Small boat, approximately 12 people, experience. Scott (the captain) and Lynn (assistant) were so friendly and informative on the trip, making sure our experience was a good one, and it was. Been going to Maui for over 20 years, and liked this company the best of any of them. Leave from Mala Harbor, so if you are on the west... More

This was one of my highlights of my trip to Maui. It started off a bit slow and the boat was quite full. But as we kept moving we had more and more of a excellent experience. At the end we had the most playful whale breaching and waving right in front of us. Well worth the money!
