Temporary Closed. Dive 100 feet below the surface and experience Maui’s marine treasures off beautiful Lahaina with Atlantis Submarines Maui. A special added bonus of this tour experience is seeing the spectacular West Maui Mountains while riding our shuttle boat to the Maui dive site. Stingray, yellow tang, eel, parrotfish, bluefin trevally, and an array of other marine species are seen regularly at the dive site. See firsthand how the Carthaginian, a sunken 19th century whaling brig, has combined with Mother Nature to create a fascinating artificial reef to attract and support marine life of all sizes, shapes and colors. Our air-conditioned, comfortable submarine interiors offer large viewing ports, which allow guests to relax and enjoy the amazing wonders of the deep. Our quiet, battery-powered submarines are eco-friendly, emitting no pollutants and leaving marine life undisturbed. Join us for an unforgettable experience!

This was so awesome, it is a tad bit pricey but it is so worth it. The Captain and crew were all so fun. We had Paul as our guide and omg he is great and hilarious. He really made the experience awesome. We got to see so many awesome fish that we didn't see while snorkeling. Due to covid they only have about 20 people in the sub which is perfect because you are able to see out the window infront of you and behind you.

This is a unique and special experience. You go underwater and see fish and coral, almost like you were scuba diving -- only your inside an actual submarine looking out through windows. We even saw a Ray on our tour, but that is not very common. Nonetheless, you'll always see amazing stuff. The tour leaves form the dock on a boat which takes you out to the submarine loading dock. That first boat ride, while short, is also great viewing.

There was nothing bad about this adventure, but it was really just okay. I expected to see more sea life, and colorful. We didn’t see much of a variety. If it wouldn’t have been so expensive I would have given it four stars. It was really an overpriced excursion

Aloha, and thank you for taking the time to share your review. We're sorry to hear that it wasn't as exciting as you had hoped. The ocean is often quite unpredictable, and sightings of underwater life vary from hour to hour. It is true, at depths past 50 feet, a phenomenon called "color absorption" occurs. This means that fish and coral that would have bright colors near the surface take on a more dull hue, and often everything will appear blue. However, this is just a perk of getting to see the ocean at depths you wouldn't normally get to experience. We appreciate your valuable feedback and hope to welcome you on another underwater adventure in the future.

Wow. This was a great adventure and one I would definitely recommend! The staff was friendly. Its a submarine! And you get to go down in it! We dropped to a depth of 140 feet or so. We saw various wild life including a ray, 2 reef sharks, turtles, and rare fish (multiple). While the rest of the reef is still trying to recover from the bleaching effects (widespread death of their reefs) of polution and global warming, Atlantis's man-made sunken ship reef is actually thriving (due to not being on the sea floor). Thoroughly impressed. Totally worth the money!

The submarine experience was the first for us, and it was a unique and enjoyable experience. The guide was knowledgeable and witty.
We took a boat to the submarine and then went down under. We were lucky to spot sharks, fishes, starfish and coral. We touched ~130 feet and the floor at that level. Cool to see the sunken boat and hear the stories. Submarine was not cramped and did not feel claustrophobic. Cool to see the submarine come out of the ocean and go down.
I will recommend it.

unexpectedly, it was not a scary but a pleasant experience. No fear aboard the submarine. The views were not necessarily the greatest ones as you may see in a documentary, but we saw a shark and many local fish, besides the sunken ship... It was worth it.

We generally think of ourselves as not "touristy, tourists" and snorkel and dive on our own. But my 88 year old mother was with us and can't snorkel - but wanted to see the fish. The whole family family went on this trip -12 years to 88 and everyone was thrilled. Some from the excitement of being in the submarine, and all for the great fish we saw, including a fantastic view of an eagle ray. Well organized and narrated. Captain was great to make sure everyone saw everything. We would recommend for a good experience.

Well worth the money. Sub dives on a reef with a wreck put there for fish. We saw Ray's, White tipped shark and many fish. Seating is tight with no backrest, which is ok as you lean forward to see out portholes. Went down to 120 feet and water was very clear. Visibility was about 30 feet.

How does this tour compare to the Oahu tour?
khlebica
Port Crane, NY44 contributions
It is basically the same tour in my opinion. It's really the luck of the draw what wildlife you will see. If you have already done one tour, I'd recommend not doing the other. Instead, I'd buy or rent some simple snorkel gear and ask a local person the best reefs nearby to check out! That is what we did and we saw way more sea life than we did on the sub- Eels, 5 sea turtles huge schools of fish, sting rays, baby sharks, etc.

Does the submarine move or do you just stay submerged in one place?

The submarine does move . We were at 150 feet moving around the bottom of the ocean floor.

There should be no problem. If concerned just run it by your OB doc
I am getting anxious about this adventure what type of boat transfers us to the sub? How hard to climb steps I use rails to go up and down regular steps

It’s an open deck boat from which you depart the marina. You’ll ride 10-15 minutes on the deck boat to dock with the sub. Access to the sub is via a wide “gangplank “. I don’t see that being an issue, for you - however; you do climb a ladder down into the sub (and back up again to disembark).

Are there seats for everyone on the submarine or is there a chance someone might have to stand?

There didn't seem to be any "bad" seats either so it doesn't really matter what order you get on. Everyone will get a window to look out of.

Do You get Wet at any point. What shall we wear?
rebekahbaez
Eureka, CA54 contributions
No you’re not going to get wet youre in a submarine, you’re getting transported on a boat from the harbor out to sea, you’re not going swimming. Wear whatever is comfortable, it’s going to be based on the time of year that you go and what the weather is like, maybe a light jacket
Hi, how long is the excursion

Total time from dock back to the dock was about 1 1/2 hours. It was a ten minute ferry ride out to the submarine operating area, and about 45 minutes submerged. Great views and amazing chance to see the fish on the reefs. Well worth it in my opinion.
