I was hesitant to do this since I am not an athletic person. No worries, you don't have to be... This place is so professional and they know what they are doing. They guarantee you will stand up when surfing ;) and you will! Johnny a.k.a Juanito was so patient and encouraging at all times in the water. He even... More

A second time back to Royal Hawaiian Surf Academy was just as wonderful as the first visit! Fun, friendly, professional instructors who want everyone to succeed! Instructor Dreyson is extremely knowledgable, talented, patient, fun and very kind! I highly recommend him, but know that any instructor you are paired with will also be fanastic! everyone was so nice and laid back..they made you feel at home, not nervous at all.. Dreyson and Travner were our instructors/guides. They gave us clear instructions and encouraged you as you paddled out to catch a wave. We had 10 in our group and everyone got at least one wave.. the pictures they took were very close up lots... Just got home from a week in Maui. The highlight of our trip was the awesome surfing experience with Royal Hawaiian Surf Academy. After much trepidation, I finally relaxed and decided that whatever happens.....happens. To my surprise, after lessons on the shore by our instructor Taylor, we all headed for the waves and had a BLAST turning lecture into learning!... More

There were five beginner surfers (ages 9, 12, 45, 47 & 51). Johnny and Taylor were our instructors and couldn't have been more knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. 4 of 5 were able to successfully stand and ride a wave to its conclusion on the VERY FIRST ATTEMPT!!! We attribute our success to the excellent instruction. We also spent some time... More

We recently took a trip to Maui, and decided to take surf lessons. We are skiers from Utah. Josh took the three of us out surfing. Dad, son and daughter. Josh was extremely patient and very encouraging. My daughter, who is deathly afraid of sharks, and warned me that she wouldn't go out into the ocean any deeper than her... More

I have been skateboarding and snowboarding for a long time, so on my first trip to Hawai'i, I was not going to miss a chance to try surfing out. I was in a group with 4 others, we were being taught by Josh. I will preface this by saying that the waves were not that big the day I went... More

Romi was awesome!! He was very laid-back but also really helpful. I stood up on my first wave, but ended up taking three semi-private lessons with him, partly because it was so much fun, but also because he was really good at finding specific things I needed to improve. A genuine guy, fun to be out on the water with.... More

My friend and I took semi-private lessons with Romi. He was great and had us both standing up right away. He was super friendly and supportive and so much fun that we came back for 2 more lessons throughout the week! More
