My daughter wanted surf lessons and she was a bit scared and unsure. Well, after her wonderful experience at Royal Hawaiian she wants to buy a surfboard. Tavner was extremely helpful and positive. He went above and beyond for her and the other students in the class. He made it a fun and positive experience. I would highly recommend using... More

Nice people and great experience! Our main wish would have been to be able to tack on another hour or so. It seemed like just about the time we we're getting the hang of it, the lesson was over. We would have definitely shelled out some more $$ to get to continue to surf.

Our family of 4 took a private group lesson with Ikaika last month and had the best time. Looking back on our Hawaii vacation, this was definitely one of our most memorable experiences. Ikaika was perfect for adults and kids (ages 14 & 9) & had us all standing by our first or second wave. I definitely recommend going earlier... More

We are 2 friends travelling from France and one of our challenge in Hawaii was to have surf initiation lessons. We have chosen the royal hawaiian surf academy after having seen an advertisement in an appartment we rented... And frankly we were not upset!! First day we had Kea as instructor. I did succeed with him quite quickly in the... More

Our instructor Ikaika was incredible. You WILL learn to surf. It was so much fun. Worth every penny. Some schools will try to pack too many students in, but these guys keep the groups small so you get focused instruction.

During our first visit to Hawaii, My two adult sons(19 & 23) and husband who had just turned 50, took private lesson with Tavner and had a blast. The surf was perfect for learning, and I would guess is most all the time. And Tavner obviously knows his stuff. The area seemed a little busy, but I am sure that's... More

My husband and I recently took a trip to Maui. We signed up for surf lessons with Royal Hawaiian Surf Academy and we were paired with Tavner as our instructor. He was incredibly patient and non-judgmental with novice surfers, thorough with instructions, and so easy going. Every single person in our group stood up on their surfboard every time they... More

My daughter wanted to surf since the day we stepped off the plane in Maui. We stayed in Kahana so we inquired about lessons with another company but they did not have a group lesson available. Our hotel recommended Royal Hawaiian Surf Academy in Lahaina.(20 min drive) We checked in about 30 minutes early and the staff helped get the... More

Our 7 year old took his first surf lesson with Josh today and he loved it! Josh had him up on the board and surfing straight away, he was great with him. The location is perfect, not too deep but with enough waves so he could surf right to shore. I thought he might be bored with a 2 hour... More

If you are even a little interested in Surfing you should use these guys. This is the 2nd trip to Maui and the second time we used these guys. Instructors 'tan' Dan an Ikaka are awesome. Felt totally safe and fun for all. Ages 8-50 surfed in our group.
