To do something completely different in Hawaii we went on a horseback ride. Ironwood Ranch is high up the mountain to start and the ride takes you even higher for great views. The horses were calm and easy to direct although they often tested us by trying to stop to eat. The guide made sure we kept them in line... More

I'd been wanting to go horse riding for so long, I was nagging my boyfriend about it constantly and he'd promised we go while we were in Hawaii. So I was stoked. Ironwood had quiet horses, great for any level of experience. There are a couple that don't really get along, but the guides know not to put them too... More

I've always wanted to go horseback riding so why not do it for the first time in Maui?! We booked this activity through our concierge service. It was only $85 per person, so price was definitely more affordable than most tourist activities. It was a 15 minute drive from our condo in Ka'anapali. The ranch is in a beautiful, hidden... More

It's was about a 1 hour trip through the hills and woods of West Maui. Although it said 1.5 on their brochure. Even though it's 1 hour, you still get to see quite a few amazing sites. The guides are nice and friendly as well as the horses. It's quite a drive up the hill to get to the Ironwood... More

This was such a special trip! I've only been on a horse a few times in my life, but this place was great. We got to meet the horses first and they all had names. Then on our "tour", we rode through the pineapple fields and down into a forest, through a stream, etc. After returning, we sat at the ranch... The best ride ever!! Horses were very well taken care of and loved!!! Gina was our trail guide and extremely knowledgable about trees and plants!!! Best views of the ocean, mountains and ironwood forest!! As an experianced horse owner I could tell that these horses and trail guides love what they do!

I booked a ride this week, but was unable to ride due to the weather. I appreciated that Gina was very nice and friendly on the phone when booking and when she had to call and cancel due to the weather and trails not being good. I appreciated that she called me early so "you can make other plans for... More

We selected this one instead of Lahaina because we read on tripadvisor that they take better care of their horses. This is definitely the case. Beautiful animals. Their website is out of date. They do not have shuttle going from Kaanapali. Taxi is $25 plus tip each way. The ride was ok. Nothing to write home about. Probably won't do... More

My return visit to Ironwood Ranch was just as wonderful as the first time. A glorious place so close to the beaches of Kaanapali and Kapalua - yet feels like another world. The horses are beautiful and responsive and the guides are warm and attentive. One more activity that makes Maui my favourite destination!

This is probably the most ominous place aside from Hana that you can find on the westside. Nestled in the hills above Napili and Kapalua, surrounded by lush tall green fields of trees, bamboo, sugar cane and other tropical foliage, is Iron Woods Ranch. Totally out of the way cool place to take a ride on a horse high above... More
