We booked this tour last minute and Tiffany was our guide. She was very knowledgeable and found a group of whales that were chasing and fighting for the attention of a female whale. We took the VIP tour so had a boat for our family to ourselves. I would highly recommend upgrading to the VIP and request Tiffany!

This was one of the best Maui experiences ever in over 25 years of visits. The small size of the boat is mitigated by the necessarily small group size, the boat is very fast, so minimum time is spent getting to and from the whale playgrounds. The crew is knowledgeable, friendly, and interesting. We saw several whales, including a cow... More

We chose Ultimate Whale Watching based on other positive reviews. We took an early afternoon two hour tour on a large raft (my description, not there's). They take small groups--not more than 18 people. You're up close and personal with the water and the feel of the wind while going out to the area where hopefully you will see some... More

We signed up with these guys not knowing much other than we wanted to be on the raft style boat. We were pleasantly surprised. We were able to get to the whales quickly and the captain got us to a female and a baby doing "whale school." He then contacted other boats and took us to a 'competition pod' which... More

I know they cannot guarantee seeing whales, but this must have been our lucky day. We had such a great time two years ago on their Kodiak Ultimate Whale Watch, we decided to opt for the VIP trip. We share a small craft with 4 others. Two whales passed underneath our boat as we watched their big dark bodies in... More

Ultimate whale watch in Lahaina is definitely the way to go. Forget a big boat with 100+ people on it. They use smaller RIB type boats holding 18 passengers, 2 crew and take you right to the action. Closer to the water gives you an amazing view of the whales and we had no problem finding whales! That's plural. A... More

We booked the early morning Whale Watching tour with Ultimate in Feb 2015. It was an hour and half long, at 6:30. We had a great time! We saw all sorts of whales. We were attracted to Ultimate because of the early tour time and the use of rafts. We really liked the idea of the rafts being about to... More

Captain Ryan and first mate Kristie gave our family an incredible experience. We had only booked the 90 minute tour, but when they spotted a three -some of whales-- mom, calf and escort, breeching; and chin slapping, they hung out an extra fifteen minutes to soak up the experience. And, this was after we saw a very active group courting a... I cannot recommend this experience enough. We are staying in Kaanapali Alii and we could see whales every day from our deck. We were not planning on doing a whale watch but after seeing so many whales, we decided to go one free afternoon. We LOVED it!!! Our guide was a researcher who studies humpback whales. She was so knowledgable.... More

Faced by a staggering number of choices on the harbour front, I was glad I had done my review checks! Paid extra for the VIP trip but boy was it worth it. 6 people on a boat makes for a very personalised trip. Although to be fair, their "normal" trip of 18 is small scale compared to other cram them... More
