I spent quite some time looking at the different options and companies offering downhill bike tours of Haleakala. I even drove to the summit and observed the different tours coming down. First off, I was not at all interested in getting up at 2 a.m. to see the sunrise at 6:30 then biking down... I'd probably fall asleep! Next was... More

It's a must do when in Maui. Watching the Sun come up was so beautiful and the clouds gave the sky exquisite colors, just breathtaking. The best part was riding our bikes down the winding roads. The air smelled so fragrant from the lavender and tropical flowers, I wish I could bottle it! As for Maui downhill company the best!!... More

The crew was friendly and make sure everyone was able to ride their bikes safe. They even make you ride 50 ft so they can determine if you are a safe rider.

To be honest, if you are prepared and know what to expect on this tour, you can make an informed decision as to whether this is something worth doing...yes, you get up crazy early and get to the summit well before sunrise. Be prepared to stand around for quite awhile in freezing temps (dress appropriately - in layers as it... More

Our family of 6 went on the Sunrise tour and were bitterly disappointed and felt very cheated of over $800. It was quite a lovely sunrise , but certainly didnt justify being picked up at 2.45 am. At this time we travelled to their office where a lot of time was wasted having " breakfast" - a few frozen pastries... More

My family experience with Maui Downhill: worst experience EVER in our last day of the trip. Basically, at 2 am (the time we had to leave the hotel), the weather was extremely bad (pouring rain, strong winds and very cold) and we asked the guide if we would see anything and if we would be able to ride the bike... Aloha, We would like to sincerely apologize for what you may consider lack of professionalism and the feeling of being ripped off. However, weather down at sea level, at times, will not be the weather you will experience at the summit of Haleakala. (Which is 10,000ft above sea level) We are running a business, and as such, we made the... More

Our family had enjoyed the day trip which included ride to Haleakala national park with plenty of time for pictures. Our guide , RC, was very informative and professional, made it fun for everybody. The we biked about 15 miles downhill in a group. The bikes are very solid. It takes a few minutes to understand how to handle them... More

The guides were great and the sunrise trip was well run, but if you want to ride downhill at your own leisure, which I highly recommend, go with Haleakala Bike company. Much more freedom and go at you own pace and stop wherever you want. Either way there's no pedaling involved.

Once again, our experience was great. We did the daytime ride (not sunrise), and our ride leader - RC - and our driver - Tony - were fun, entertaining, informative, and had safety as their number one priority. The pulled pork tacos for lunch at the Lavender Farm were terrific. It was a cloudy day at the summit and for... More
