You can drive yourself or take a tour. If you love nature you will enjoy this trip. Set aside an entire day as there are literally many twists and turns on this road and several breathtaking waterfalls and beaches along the way. If you are prone to motion sickness, take something before leaving as this is truly a trip worth... More

I've taken this day trip three times, but the most recent was the best. Go counterclockwise (rental car companies discourage you from traveling on the south side of the island, but it's fine. Really.) The locals go this way. Stop at Haleakala National Park for a few short hikes. Take the 1.5 mile loop road at highway marker 50. It's... More

my husband and I and another couple paid over $200 each for a van trip to Hana. The driver and guide, Jon, was excellent. Now for the negative. We were all shocked at the TERRIBLE, puny, unappetizing lunch they provided. Whichever company is preparing the meals for the tour company is a COMPLETE RIPOFF. And be advised, once you get... More

Going to Hana wasn't that bad b/c you're driving next to the earth. Going back to town is another story. Enjoy!

Great day trip! We left Kihei at 8:30am and returned at 7pm. Stopped at several of the waterfalls along the way for pictures, as well as lunch at Hana Bay. Arrived at the 7 sacred pools around 2pm, did the 1/2 mile loop walk to the pools for more pictures. At that point most guide books tell you to turn... More

I will start by saying we have been to all the Hawaiian islands including Maui but never have taken the " road to Hana". Hana is very expensive but we chose to spend the night, instead of doing everything in one day, and having to drive back to the other side of the island. The road is terrible. Locals drive... More

The road it self was so incredibly smooth and there are so many beautiful sights to see on the way! We drove all the way to Hana on an amazing bright and sunny day - though it rained in Hana, it cleared up in 30 minutes. Our favorite spot was at Mile 32 ,Wai'anapanapa State Park ie. the black sand... More

It's an experience you won't forget. Will test your driving and patience. The scenery is unlike any other, unless you drive around the north end of Maui! The app keeps you entertained on the things around you. Yes it's a long day but it's worth it!

my husband and i didn't get a chance to do the road to hana on our first visit to maui, so we made sure to get to it this time. we really enjoyed it! everyone talks about how long and miserable the drive is, but that was not our experience at all. probably not the best for young children, but... I can't imagine going to Maui for any length of time and not driving the road to Hana. If you do, you will miss out on some of the most beautiful sights on the island. We spent two nights so we could take our time getting there, explore the area before taking the back road back. Plan to leave early.... More
