We drove the road to Hana which took approximately 3 hours. Be prepared for very curvey roads and hairpin turns and if you have the tendency to get car sick, I would suggest taking a motion sickness pill before heading out. We ended up in Haleakalāku Nat'l Park where we hiked up 2 miles to Waimoku falls . Just seeing... More

Some say it's worth it and others say it isn't. I think it depends on you. It was pretty, but a little bit goes a long way. You have to look hard for some of the stops or you'll miss them. We didn't realize we missed a lot by the time we got to mile marker 16. The CD we... More

It's been over 50 years since I have any memory of being carsick but this road did it. I was only going about half way, as far as the YMCA Camp. The road is nothing but slow going curves. I became so ill that I had to be helped from the car to my bed. Got there before dinner but... More

617 Turns. It is a long day of driving up and back, but worth it. Stop at some of the roadside stands, waterfalls, and beaches. Also, make sure to stop by the Garden of Eden. Lots of stuff to see on the way to Hana. Not so much to see in Hana...It is more the experience of getting there. More

There is so much to do on the Road to Hana. You just have to know what you like and allocate your time to the stops you'll get the most out of. This last trip was our 4th so we know what we like. We start in Paia town. It's cute and a good place for breakfast if you are... More

"Road to Hana" is billed as one of the "not to miss" activities while on Maui. The drive is mostly along sea cliffs and with very frequent one lane roads/bridges, that makes driving there somewhat stressful (is there a car coming from the other side of the bend in the cliff?). The experience is heavily advertised as needing a "tour... More

We drove the Road to Hana in May, which may be the dry season. I was underwhelmed by the experience. It was pretty, but it was also 10 hours of stressful driving and little fun. If I'd had a root canal, it would have only taken 2 hours and then I could have been back on the beach or in... More

The road to Hana isn’t that bad. My wife and I did it Monday and since we left early we didn’t have too much traffic coming the other way. This year the waterfalls are really not flowing very much. There has not been too much rain so a lot of the rivers are dry. Yes there are a lot of... More

The "Road to Hana" was probably the most optional part of planning a trip to Maui--at first. Twisty coastal roads are common for Californians, like me, and I'd read a Trip Advisor review suggesting that the journey was skippable in such a case. However, the Kahanu Garden (Breadfruit Institute) is near Hana and so the drive was inevitable anyway. Turns... More
