There are a lot of hair pin bends and narrow bridges so some US drivers may find the drive daunting but we felt at home and unlike Italy where nobody takes any notice of road signs here everybody was courteous, and safe. Scenery is difficult to take in as not many stopping places but with care they can be found,... More

After arriving at the Kahului Airport, we picked up a rental car and headed straight to Paia to begin the Road to Hana experience. It takes you through many curves and locations where you have to yield to oncoming traffic. In many places you are only driving 25-35 mph so I got to see a lot of views while driving.... More

Drove road to Hana a few days ago and used the GyPSy app. I wouldn't do the drive without the app - too many sites to see, so the app helps prioritize, and more importantly it tells you where to park! Some of the sites would be very hard to see without this advice. Definitely start early in the morning,... More

Stunning views, but what a drive!! It's mostly 1 lane for the duration and if you encounter another car from the opposite direction someone has to stop and pull over or back up. There were some tiny home run stands along the way and the town of Hana is very rustic. It took a few hours to get to the... More

Would not recommend making this trip in a large SUV. Smaller cars are easier to navigate on the narrow roads of Hana. Spend a few days in Hana, meet the locals, you won't be disappointed!

If you don't like driving on curves you won't like this drive. The beauty is stunning but it is a long drive with many, many, many, curves. Not as nerve racking as mountain drives with a big drop off, but you do have to stay attentive. We stopped at the rain forest and made the mistake of not putting on... More

We have attempted this tour twice now and have not made it very far due to weather. The first time it was so cold and dreary, we turned around less than half way. The second time, 14 years later it was cold and raining. Some of the bridges had standing water on them and we witnessed 2 landslides one of... More

My husband and I have just done this trip. We booked it through our hotel. It is very expensive about $300 but you are out for 12 hours. The guide picked us up from the hotel and dropped us back at the hotel at the end of the trip. I think he picked us up about 6:45 am we went... More

The ocean views from this road are lovely, as are the waterfalls but we felt the whole experience was hugely overrated. Maui is full of beautiful sights and having to spend several hours driving tortuous roads certainly took the edge off the Hana ones. Many of the turn offs/view points were blocked with cars making it impossible to stop and... More

This was an awesome way to spend the day. Initially, we were going to drive it ourselves, but then we thought that the driver would not get to see much and we might not have the commentary that a tour would give us. So, we went with Discover Hawaii tours, which was a good way to go, but unfortunately, we... More
