This can be a difficult and dusty place to go so wear clothing you never want to wear again including shoes. However it is a once in a lifetime "bucket list" type of place. You have to look for the "Gods" & that helps you focus on the present and connect.

With the heavy rains the day before, we couldn't do Munro Trail so off we went to Garden of the Gods. The ride was bumpy but we made it! The landscape view of this whole area is breathtaking. The rock formations cause our mind to wander to the days when these island were being formed. The iron-rich soil of the... More

You need a four wheel drive to get anywhere on the island and it can be rented in town. Once you get to explore it is a fantastic experience.

Wow, words cannot explain the beauty of this place! The range of colors is unbelievable! try to rent a 4 wheeler for the day if planning on going. Then you can get down to the beaches where you will be the ONLY people around! This was our best day in Hawaii! Ask the person at the ferry booth for the... More

Appears to be just a ton of rocks. Requires an extremely bumpy and dusty ride. No clear signage to get there so it can be a bit confusing. If you go the right way you will eventually arrive at a sign for the Garden of the Gods. We drove a bit further and began an extremely uneven descent but decided... More

After a bumpy dusty ride we saw the sign, drove a bit more and actually asked someone else if this was it or there was something else further along. Unfortunately this was all. The garden is a reddish landscape with rocks scattered throughout. Yes, a bit like a Mars scape - but nothing compared to Haleakala crater vistas for example.... More

we went there twice. Just loved this unique and almost magical place. It's like a lunar landscape up there with amazing rock formations and terrific views down to the ocean and across to the close by islands. It tends to be quite windy up there but we found that very inviting. We could have stayed there forever to enjoy the... More

I was expecting more but it is just lots of rocks. A neat view to the ocean and I took lots of photos. It is windy up there. The rental car agency said the road past the garden is bumpy -- "bumpy" does not describe it. It is so rocky, jerky, pot holy, that bumpy is an understatement. Have fun!
