Russian Fort Elizabeth is worth the stop for its historical signifcance since it's right off the road, but there isn't a lot ot see there. just a few stones left of the old fort. The view of the beach, though, is gorgeous and there is a nice walking path around the fort plus a plaque that's worth a read. More

A sprinkling of rocks with an unkempt parking lot. A lot of imagination is required to retell the story of the partially built Russian Fort. More

Not worth the bumpy trip through the parking lot. There are plenty of other look out spots that don't require driving over pot holes to get to... More

This was a piece of history I was not familiar with before our stop. There wasn't much of the fort to look at but we really just stopped because we needed a rest from driving. We walked down to the beach where a lot of people were fishing. The sand is dark but I wouldn't call it black like another... More

1815 Russian fort. I was a bit let down as I expected a much larger fort. More

I was actually pretty excited for this but it's just the earthen remains of the fort with a 80s era sign posted in the parking lot and a Russian Trading company flag in the center of the fort. You can reach the beach and get a decent view of the forbidden island and Waimea- and the beach is black sand-... More

We stopped here on our way to Waimea Canyon. It's pretty much a a few acres of desert like land where an old Russian Fort used to be. The only thing left of it are parts of the walls made of rocks. Not very interesting to be honest. I would just keep driving... More

This is the ruins of a fort built in 1815 by Russians in Kauai. It, and the Russian presence in Hawaii didn't last particularly long; the fort was dismantled in 1864. All that is left is a few low rock walls, and some intepretative signs. The ground is strewn with boulders, so watch your step. Currently, an ADA Barrier Removal... More
