Go early for better visibility and less crowds. Be sure to take Waimea Canyon Drive up versus the more common route, Koke'e Road. Currently there is road work along this route but the views are so much better that it is worth it. If you hike, and I would recommend it, don't think you can do it in flip flops.

The Waimea Canyon is a must see while on Kauai! It is so peaceful and beautiful. The drive up the Canyon has lots of great views along the way with a few twists and turns (nothing compared to the Road to Hana if you have done that). Some of the lookouts are far better than others so plan on spending... More

The drive is worth it! There are many beautiful and breathtaking views on your journey to Kokee. If you wish, take a lunch and enjoy it at one of the many opportunities to enjoy the scenery. Each time we visit Kauai we travel the canyon. Be sure to go to the very end of the road as that is the... More

If you are in Kauai, you must take some time to see this canyon. From Princeville, it will take two hours to get there. But it's worth the time. Drive carefully up the road, which will occasionally curve sharply to the left and right. On our way back, we took to time to stop at a few of the towns... More

The canyon was amazing, there is a lot of people but there are some great photo opportunities on top of the viewing area and on the drive up. The road is pretty good, don't be scared to drive it yourself.

Read about the 'grand canyon' of Hawaii and went to the island especially. We were not disappointed. The road up is winding with plenty of view stops and the scenery is breathtaking. Weather was fickle the day we went but when it rained it was still warm rain. Canyon is quite long and different as you climb being more rugged... More

We left Po'ipu at about 9 am for our road trip to Waimea Canyon. We had no trouble finding our way there. I'm afraid of heights & narrow roads along cliffs, but had absolutely no problem with this drive. The weather cooperated beautifully, & we had a gorgeous day. The views & colors were phenomenal. We arrived at Koke'e State... More

The canyon itself is fine, big enough to be impressive but small enough to not be overwhelming. It's important to think of the canyon as an area rather than destination as the entire road it's on has many stops, parks, and attractions. The whole thing will take, from bottom of the road to up and back down, about half your... More

This was our second trip to Kauai and to the canyon. The weather was kind of cloudy/rainy on our last day, but decided it wasn't good beach weather. So, decided to drive to Waimea. Almost turned around half way up due to the weather, but decided to press on. Glad we did. the weather cleared some as we reached the... More

We trekked this 9-miler (4.5 one-way) on a beautiful October day. The initial part of the trail is very muddy and slippery after rains and the board-walk part of the swamp trail can be a little dodgy at times but this hike is worth it. Good footwear is essential and we highly recommend hiking poles or a walking stick. Do... More
