Flew from Oahu to do the day tour of Waimea Canyon and Fern Grotto. Had been raining for two weeks but it was the most beautiful clear day. The scenery of the canyon was fantastic and beautiful. The Wailua River and Fern Grotto were lovely A long day from Oahu and back again but well worth it. So glad I... More

It's a long drive..further if you also go beyond the canyon to the furthest point to look over the na Pali Coast..which of course we did. As always chickens surround you even up at the top, LOL. Please if you ever visit, even if only once take the time to view this incredible one of a kind Natural Vista of magnificent... More

Waimea Canyon is a MUST see while in Kauai. The island is small, so you can get there easily from any point. The canyon is truly the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific" BUT it is lush and green and teeming with waterfalls. Many vantage points to stop at off the paved road. Don't stop at the last Waimea Canyon look-out... More

The view is great but can get busy at times. Stop at a local store and grab some bites to eat as drive can be a little long and no food when you get there. Before you go check the cruise arrivals as they have bus excursions to that location and can get very congested.

We headed up the canyon early in the morning when it was cool and before the fog rolled in. The elevation is about 4500 ft and the landscape going up the mountain is interesting, because it changes as you venture up the winding road. (Dramamine helps) The views are magical with a waterfall spilling down between two mountains. Bring a... More

It is easy to see why Mark Twain called this the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific." The lookouts are well placed and the landscape is just breathtaking. At the end of the road, there are overlooks onto the Na Pali Coast. All of it was just beautiful!

A bunch of friends and I drove here and hiked the canyon on July 1. It was gorgeous. This is a moderate skill hike in some areas, easy in others. The colors are fantastic. We hiked to and around the falls. It is quite a drive from the Poipu area where we were but the journey itself is quite scenic... More

This was our second visit to Kauai and our first trip to the canyon. We stayed in Kapa a and drove around the island to the canyon and despite The long drive reaching the top of the canyon was simply breathtaking. I mean our jaws dropped looking over the island down to the beaches as the site was something you... More

The canyon is absolutely stunning. The range of topological features in such a relatively small area is really beautiful. Recommend finding the small nature center there too. The canyon from the air is a great vantage point, but the drive through really brought out a lot of the detail that you'll miss from the sky.

At the base of the canyon, you'll see signs that the state park and look out point are only 11 miles up Waimea canyon road - be forwarned it will likely take you 20-30 minutes. The road is very well paved, but had lots of twists and turns. You have to go slow, speed limit is about 25 mph, and... More
