Hard to believe you are still on the island. Last couple stops at the top got us out favorite picks.

Drove here from Princeville which is a looooong drive but I had good company and the island is beautiful so the trip passed quickly. The canyon is spectacular, the juxtaposition ogre the deep reddish soil with the lush green of the jungle making it particularly dramatic. A must-see, in my book.

Beautiful when the weather is clear which can be a challenge. We encountered rain but that was half the fun. We just kept going up the mountain and would pull over when the sun peeked through the clouds.

The drive from the town of Waimea to the end of the road (past the canyon all the way to the top at Kokee State Park) takes maybe 45 minutes. Longer if you stop and look around. It's slow and it's a twisty road. But oh, the views! There are numerous lookouts along the way, some official and some not.... More

My trip from Princeville (north shore) took nearly 3 hours. From anywhere on the Kauai island it's going to take you 1-2 hours to get there via 25mph speed limits. What you get at the top is a picturesque, reddish-hued landscape of eroded soils and green foliage. It's what's there and it is one of the Garden Isle's things to... More

Loved the awa awapuhi trail and all of the lookouts. The roads are immaculately kept, and a feature is that these state parks are free! Absolutely stunning.

Made the drive up the canyon on a lark on the way back to the hotel. WOW--I'm amazed! the drive will turn most motion-sick proned to the barf bag, but it is worth it at the top. the lookout shows you a canyon that is hard to describe. The colors (even in the rain) are amazingly brilliant. Anyone who makes... More

We hiked around a bit and saw some amazing views here at the Waimea canyon. This place is definitely a place to visit if you are trying to stay within a budget. It's FREE and it's memorable! You can meet other people as they ask to take a picture of them, and vice versa.

We rented a soft top jeep and took the drive with the top down. The views were fantastic. I wish we had packed a day bag and extra water to take a few of the hikes.

This canyon is beautiful. It is not to be missed, if you visit Kauai Island, The color contrasts of the reds of the canyon walls and the lush green foliage growing there is a sight to be seen.
